Heatwave in Europe. Doctor's suggest users of tirzepatide to skip doses to avoid kidney failure because of dehydration.

I do not remember hearing anything ever about GLP drugs causing kidney problems except in one very specific situation, otherwise they slow the progression of renal failure and can improve renal function and reduce protein excretion.

If you have that exact problem where they can cause renal failure, then the advice is always going to be to stop it, as the only issue is dehydration due to uncontrolled vomiting or diarrhoea as a side effect or from overdoses where the dehydration can then cause acute kidney failure.

So on the whole not solid medical advice.

Umm, what? Most im aware of is people may naturally drink less fluids due to appetite suppression or nausea. But if conscious about fluid intake, dont see the worry.

Extreme possibility I'm overlooking some symptom people experience, but Im an arguable endurance athlete and have never had a problem with long mountain bike rides or rucks in heat.

That's what I thought. Fake news! Go out on TV and scare people to skip doses instead of drinking more water is the dumbest thing I've heard in a while

GLPs can reduce fluid intake, and is being trialed as a treatment for people drinking excessive amounts of water - primary or psychogenic polydipsia. It worked for me dropping fluid intake from 8 litres a day to 4. But under normal circumstances there are a lot of systems regulating thirst and it is not a strong enough effect to override those systems and actually cause problems from low fluid intake. If it caused widespread dehydration it would not improve renal function, and it does.

They also mentioned other drugs like ibuprofen not once saying anything about hydration. I know for myself I need to set a timer to remember to drink water because as you said I'm not thirsty as much on tirzepatide. Getting up to pee like 4 times a night is not ideal but you learn to do it half asleep after a while.
