Hey over 50 ladies! Get in here, Let's talk

I'm almost 50. What has worked for peri symptoms? I'm desperate right now. I already went to my gyno last year and they just gave me birth control pills which I didn't like. They said they could not advise hrt because I was still having a period.

But anyway,I'm looking at various otc estrogen creams and wondering if any of those make sense or should I get real estrogen from indiamart.
I've spent the last year and a half dialing in my thyroid and it's made a huge difference. I'm in the very last stage of peri now though, so I have a little bit of symptoms like hot flashes and middle of the night insomnia. I also have night time congestion that makes me snore, so I started taking a zyrtec before bed and not only do I no longer snore, but it makes me sleepy enough that I fall back asleep after waking. My dr said he'd start HRT for me at the next appointment since my hormones were so low, I'm at the point of no return I guess. I haven't had a period in almost 3 months now.

We finally started reta on Saturday at a tiny dose (had a delay since my dog got sick and we moved the oldest back home after he graduated). Surprisingly, I already notice reduced hunger. My husband and son also started it.

Hiyo is a drink that is sparkling water and fruit extracts and adaptogenics added like mushroom extracts and Ashwaganda, which is known for it's calming effects and for thwarting cortisol. I use it as a sub for evening wine I used to drink too much of.
I forgot to add sugar spikes trigger cortisol. so avoiding sugars and refined straches also helps.
I successfully avoided menopause for a couple of years taking herbal supplements they sell over the counter. The names slip my mind at the moment.
The names were Estroven, and Amberen. The Estroven worked well prevented hot flashes at leats and my periods were regular. They eventually got very heavy, and the Menopause commenced. I wish I had known and been able to start HRT sooner.

👋 fellow 50 something ladies!
I am fairly new to the forum and not as active here as I'd like but I try to check in at least every few days.

I am a month shy of 54, and had gone over a year without a period. My PCP didn't care one bit when I mentioned that my libido and orgasms had simply disappeared! Im so glad I started bioidentical HRT with pellets plus progesterone a low dose of desiccated thyroid right around the beginning of the year, thanks to my functional/wellness practitioner, and WOW! What a game changer to feel like my old self!

The same practitioner (PA) recommended peptides and I started very slowly and cautiously on Reta in early March.

I was patient and did only 1mg once a week for 4 weeks, only lost 2lbs.
Then I did 2mg once a week for 4 weeks, only lost 6lbs.
No real side effects so I decided to go for it and began 2mg twice a week- Wed/Sat. I finally felt real appetite suppression! I then lost 10lbs the 3rd month!
I'm still the same weight for the last week so today I bumped up to 3mg twice a week (1st dose). I've been loving the effects overall- I have ADHD, (as well as PTSD, OCD, and anxiety- I'm a service connected disabled veteran). I swear the Reta just makes me feel calm and content, and I sleep just fine!

I also did a half a dozen 5mg MotsC injections spaced out every five days in the 3rd month and I'm gearing up to do a mitochondrial reset with SS-31, MotsC and NAD+.

My next favorite peptide is KPV. I've been taking a small dose every day for a couple weeks and my skin feels "velvety soft."

I listened to a podcast about menopause and HRT that really opened my eyes, I highly recommend ALL ladies over 40 check it out!
It's called the "You are not broken" podcast with Dr Kelly Casperson, episode 225, entitled Boomers should be pissed! It could change your life, too, so please take a listen!

My heaviest weight was 228, I started this year (and ironically last Jan too) at 225, started Reta at 222, currently 204 but expect to lose another couple pounds this week. My goal is to weigh 135 or at least be under 150 since I'm only 5'3". I have a lot of muscle so I should weigh 135 for 20% bf which is my true goal, I'm currently at around 47% according to my Renpho scale.

I got a mini trampoline and started just doing gentle bouncing ten min a day, a few times a week, plus I do my favorite calisthenics like push ups, bench dips, air squats, and lunges. So far so good at maintaining my 107lbs of lean body mass with no muscle loss so far.

My 27yo son (Birdwhacker here) currently lives with us and he has become my peptide guru, researching endlessly and drawing up what I need- I just supply the funds lol. I'm currently trying to stack up a few thousand milligrams of Reta since I'm on it for the long haul! I'm thinking it's going to take around a year to lose the total 90lbs I'd like to lose, plus maintenance after that.

It's great to meet all you fine ladies here!

Welcome! and you're lucky to have a buddy/mentor on this same path!
re muscle loss and fat loss:
I wish I had been more proactive about weight lifting throughout this past year.
I did lose a good deal of muscle, because I slacked off and while I kept my steps up, the simple fact of having less weight to carry around absolutely weakened my muscles. I am trying to build them back now. I lost 53 lbs and when I think about carrying that weight around with me, all of the time, I can see that there is a big difference in what my body used to do on a daily basis. even a workout session every day wouldnt compare. So it is a challenge to maintain that. I am still at 26% BF..but under 22 bmi

I love reading about everyone's experiences! Question before my 5th dose tomorrow. I am still having some nausea on 2.5 tirz. I am big on following the science, clinical trials, dosing recommendations and maximizing the outcomes. I know that I should jump to 5 this dose but I am really worried about the side effects.

I told my doctor that I am using a telehealth provider for compounded tirz and she prescribed some anti-nausea meds but told me to refer back to the telemed doc for dosage questions. I am not sharing I am using gray. I am tempted to follow the recommendations and go up to 5 and use the medication if I have side effects. Or am I overthinking following the data as opposed to just trying a slightly higher dose for a couple of weeks? Thinking about 3.75 which would be an increase of half my current dose. Thoughts?
Would you consider a change in diet? Maybe try a low carb or keto diet for six weeks or so?

As the title says I’m looking for input for other ladies over 50 who are on this pilgrimage (not a journey to me, that sounds too easy). I’m 59 and have been overweight since I hit puberty. Total hysterectomy at 44. No major health problems.

I started December 15th on sema. I’m making decent progress. I’m up to .5 on dose but thinking about switching to tirz. I ordered a 30mg kit a while back. Going back and forth on changing and maybe doing a small sema kicker on my 3rd or 4th day each week if I need it. I have been having more cravings on day 6 and 7 each week.

I’m having trouble getting motivated to exercise. This happens to me every winter. I know that’s what it is. If I get my butt up and go to the gym I always feel better but depression is a killer to motivation. I’m on this mission alone. Nobody around me with time is interested in going with me so I’m gonna have to find that motivation alone. I did get a recumbent bike and some free weights and I’m trying to do that every day.

I've got my nutrition under control I think. Trying to hit the protein goal everyday but sometimes I miss. Making sure to get fiber every day and so far that has kept me and the toliet in good standing. I try to drink enough everyday but some days I feel like I'm gonna float off. I'm not counting calories because all the fatty foods I usually love is kinda gross to me right now. Plus after doing the calculation to see how many calories I would need to eat to maintain my weight I know I'm probably at half that amount. If you haven't done that yet, look it up.

I’m worried about the sagging skin! I’ve had so many surgeries in the last decade (mostly ortho stuff - back, hands, arm). I just got out of debt from having my gallbladder out but I consider that win with the GLP-1s. I know I’m not going to be a young hottie but I hate the idea of having to tuck and compress loose skin for the rest of my life or get it cut off.

Just looking for feedback from other mature ladies. Suggestions? Experiences you’re having?
Hi Chunky!

(I’m not over 50, I’m 46, BUT I have been obese my whole life, and I deal with the winter scaries too!) My hack for keeping those at bay is walking 😂. I live in Vegas so we don’t get snow….its easy for me to go for a walk durring my lunch or after dinner to at least get some more movement into my day, and last year I was successful at keeping the seasonal depression at bay. My trick is..,,I tell myself I will only go for 5 or 10 minutes and I can do ANYTHING for that long….I usually walk more. When I was lifting, I would go to the gym first thing in the morning (4amish) like right away, before my mind told me not too, this was also super effective for me. **** Motivation is fleeting, I don’t rely on that….i would have to force myself. You never feel worse after a good work out 💕💕

As far as the loose skin….I've come to terms with this aspect of weight loss a while ago. BUT I have GHK on my list for my next buy….which I will cycle for skin health and all the anti-aging, anti-sagging benefits.

My sister, F43 is a Nurse Practitioner, and on my last buy she got some Glow…..I’m excited to hear from her on how it’s worked in terms of her skin appearance and elasticity. If I learn anything, I’ll happily share it here.
