I can’t stand the phrase "Weight Loss Journey"

I agree with “life is a journey” and also that “<fill in the blank> journey” can be a hackneyed term that results in eye rolling and sighs.

After a year on tirz and 90+ pounds shed, I am confident that my “weight loss journey” has concluded, and the journey continues but with a different adjective. As I transition to a maintenance phase, I cannot describe the feelings of liberation, joy and hope for the future. What I’m realizing is that the fixation on weight can finally take a back seat to bigger picture life goals. Your world suddenly becomes much larger and you develop an expanded sense of self in relation to the world beyond food and the scale. Awesome.

I mean the words got cheapened. Now it’s just the tagline for every useless powder, every diet program and every tiktok influencer.

Weight loss journey isn't inspiring anymore, it’s just marketing pretending to be wisdom.

I call it that cause it's four syllables to mean "I'm trying to get some weight off and expect to be working on it for a long time." I seem to remember that the young people came up with it a few years back, and it seemed as good a phrase as any. If anyone else comes up with a more efficient one, though, I'll switch to that.

That phrase has been tossed around so much it almost feels like a marketing slogan instead of something real. Everyone’s experience is different, and boiling it down to a “journey” can make it sound generic. I like when people just talk about the changes they’re making or the goals they’re working toward, it feels more genuine and personal.

Diet is even worse. No one tells you that when you "finished" the diet all the weight will come back if you eat what you were eating before.
