My vet said my cats are all obese!!

I think I was more upset when she told me that than when my doctor first told me I was obese. I just put them on wet food. They are not happy. now they wake me at 4:30 am to eat!!! Any cat owners out there with an "obese" cat or cats??

Girlfriend had to put her cat on Prozac to deal with an overzealous Dachshund because it was getting UTIs from the stress. No more UTIs but it lost a LOT of weight.

I have 4 cats. They all get the same amount of access to the same food. Only one is fat. He's the one that was found starving at a post office parking lot. The woman that found him was vegan and she fed him a vegan diet for a few weeks until we took him in and he was given a normal cat diet. Getting him to leave the other cats food alone is a challenge.

Well .. she was just dumb. I don't think she intended to hurt him. All she saw was a starving animal eating the stuff she gave him. Now he gets nothing but cat food.

Two of mine are rescues and one I inherited from my grand daughter. I get why the homeless rescues might over eat but not the inherited one. He has lived a life of luxury since he was adopted. I hope the wet food works for weight loss. I don't think glp1s are used for cats yet. It is interesting Prozac is.

My cat Fiona is obese. My daughters cat is a young neutered male but he wakes me up at 4am for a treat.

My vet knows Fiona is obese but doesn't ever make recommendations for her to lose weight. I'm not a vet, but Fiona is completely food insecure. If I put her on a diet she's just going to obsess about food all the time and bug me to feed her. We leave kibble out and they eat at their leisure. Fiona overeats and barfs about 2x a week.

GLP1s for humans are poisonous for cats. I think they have an equiv if you want to put your cats on a vet prescribed drug. But don't give your cats your human peps 🙂

I love my little chonky Fiona. Her "full" button is broken but I don't care. When her quality of life is insufferable I'll do the right thing. I don't think being thinner is going to make her live appreciably longer.

Will second that. Put fat old neurotic cat who started having pee issues on the kitty Prozac, and he lost 6lbs! His safe place was the food bowl and he was always worried. Now he's happier and can jump on the counter to knock things off again!

Of my five cats, only one is obese. He is a littermate to two others. He was always a little lazy and I can't keep him away from the other at wet food feeding time. I do use indoor only cat food that is lower in calories for him, but he gobbles twice as much. I'm going to ask my vet for prozac, thanks for the tip.

He's too fat to climb up the beams in the living room and doesn't jump to higher places. It makes me sad for him and I know it's going to shorten his life if I let it continue.

It does sound like it will be many years before weight loss drugs are widely used in pets.

I fed my diabetic cat young again kibble- it’s made to be an appropriate diet for an obligate Carnivore. She went into remission on young again kibble and fancy feast, stayed off insulin for almost 2years.

Oh wow. My cat went through a similar phase when we switched to wet food, not thrilled at first, but it’s been better for their health. Maybe a little puzzle feeder or slow feeder bowl could help keep them entertained and slow down the eating? Any other fur parents tried those?
