I recently started a new Vial/Provider and was a little concerned about whether it was less effective than previous Tirz.

It occurred to me that the days I track higher caloric intake and less healthy foods coincide with days after I had a few drinks. This is something I had previously not noticed, likely as a result of effectively losing much faster during my first few months.

It lead me to look up more information on the subject.

I kind of knew alcohol was bad with empty calories and other negative effects, think pancreas.. but I was only having a few, and will continue to in moderation.
What I did not know is the physiological impact it had on the GLP-1s, in addition to the psychological cravings, and that it was likely the cause of my plateau and concern on efficacy.

Here is a summary of what I found:

Drinking alcohol while on GLP-1 medications can increase appetite and potentially hinder weight loss efforts. GLP-1 medications, like Semaglutide and Tirzepatide, work by stimulating the release of GLP-1, a hormone that helps regulate appetite and blood sugar levels. Alcohol, however, can disrupt this process, leading to increased appetite, higher blood sugar levels, and reduced impulse control, potentially leading to overeating.

The good news is after getting over my hangover and nursing my head for a day, my appetite is back in check today and I am not looking for a chili cheese dog.

I am curious as to whether this may be impacting others and they are unknowingly blaming the wrong thing.

There is more on this here

Oh no, I know full well that alcohol practically undoes the effects of glp-1's. They sort of cancel each other out in terms of appetite and therefore directly affect weight loss.

It helps keep me in moderation to know that each drink is practically throwing away some percentage of the $$$ I paid for the glp-1. One step forward, two steps back if I'm not careful. However, sometimes my appetite needs a nudge too. I don't let it get to the point of hangover territory.

If I plateau, I know it's the drinking.

I would also be curious if there are other factors like Alcohol sugars in protein bars etc...

I only do happy hour 2x a week, just a few hours, but occasionally I go a little hard.

I have heard sweets in the AM can trigger a similar effect. I have done great for 6 months, but assume it is because I had so far to go, the closer I get to goal the slower the pounds go and I assume the more impact these other factors have.

I would love to hear feedback from others.

Something I noticed as well. After not drinking for several months, one evening I had a couple of glasses of wine. Next day, I was retaining a lot fluid and experienced a lot of food noise. That passed after about 24 hours. Might just be anecdotal, or it might be real.

This is exactly what I am talking about. Not only do I have the cravings, but my official weigh in is the day after happy hour..and I have been bouncing up on weight on that day for the last 4 weeks.
And it is not just food noise, it is Cheeseburger, Tacos, Chili dog noise...
It is a bummer.

I can 100% say I lose less when drinking. I'm also guilty of blaming everything BUT the alcohol for the stall. 😅

Even in a calorie deficit I won't lose if I'm drinking.

Alcohol is a no go for me. I'm on a mission. I never drank much before anyway. The fluid retention from Alcohol alone is a problem. And that's on or off Tirz. Generally most people I see that stall, are not counting macros. They are throwing shit at a wall and hoping something sticks. Just need a level of give a fuck and discipline. I've yet to stall. But I've also not been on as long as you.

So that makes at least 4 of us, it seems to be a common experience.

Are there any other examples of this, either alcohol or other contributing factor that can cause plateau. I am talking food/drink/supplement.

I'll chime in and say that I've been happily enjoying up to 12oz of wine a day (most days just 6oz), using a measure so that I don't go over 'cause the glass is big, counting it in my daily calories, and still losing when I stick to my calorie goals. I was a bit stuck for a couple of months, but I bumped up to 10mg Tirz and I'm losing again now, with the wine. I don't doubt that things would work *even better* if I let it go completely, but I don't want to, and I get along well enough to be okay with the consequences. I just really like a glass of unwinding wine at the end of a day.

Don't quote me on this, but the way it was explained to me (that I choose to believe because I'm trying to quit drinking) is: alcohol is a toxin, so the body focuses on getting rid of that first. While your body is getting rid of the alcohol it's NOT getting rid of fat.

I choose to think of it that way so I don't go back to drinking every second I'm not at work.

I've found I can have sweets, but actual candy that's pure sugar is a no go. It triggers cravings. Something like a cheesecake seems to be okay- I think the fat helps with how my body absorbs it. Again, completely unscientific.

For me it's weed

I can eat like hulk without even feeling nauseous when high lol.

Since I figured that out I reduced drastically, to like 1-2 times per month
So, allegedly, from time to time I might partake. Funny thing is it does result in drastically improved sleep. As an added bonus, I do not have to shop overseas or use crypto and storage and dosing is simple. It may be one of my favorite supplements, but I am a 1-2x per month guy and a 1 hit light weight.

Indeed weed is much easier to manage

I personally don't sleep well on weed, or at least I'm always tired as shit the next day, BUT I prefer that over a hangover
