Has anyone else using Mounjaro lost lots of weight and had mood changes that resulted in ending a relationship ? I have been on 2.5 for a month then 5mg for 8 weeks, lost 20% bodyweight and my wife and child of 12years, as well as about £2k down the drain to Eli Lilly / SSA.

Strange mood changes, anxiety, fear, lust, a bit compulsive and wanting change. Taking unusual risks both financial and emotional. Very very out of character from baseline.

Not what I aimed for at all ! And before any tries to sell me anything don’t bother my bank accounts are now also empty lol

I can't really speak to the personal aspects of these kind of issues and GLP's directly, but a couple who I've been friends with for 15 years recently separated over infidelity that began after one of them lost over 100lbs/45kg on name-brand Mounjaro.

Obviously, I don't know if the med itself contributed to anything that happened. I've known a number of other people over the years who have lost substantial amounts of weight without GLP's who ended up experiencing relationship and other issues so I tend to suspect it may have more to do with the overall changes in body chemistry, personality, self-confidence, etc. that come along with losing a lot of weight.

With the various changes to things like certain addictive habits that I've experienced (and that have been documented) on tirz, I suspect we have a lot more to learn about how these meds might affect other areas of the brain, behaviors, emotions, etc.

Sorry you're going through this.

So no history or family history of bipolar disorder? In any case, difficulty adjusting to change (good or bad) is a common symptom of anxiety, depression, etc.

One of the many side effects of losing weight are major mood swings. Your body changes include hormonal shifts and many other stressors that can make you act out in ways that clash with your normal personality. That is just another reason that doctors really want people to lose weight slowly. Its rough to go through and it might be advisable to seek therapy or a local support group to help you deal with the changes.

She was also on MJ with no real health support. Similar weight loss at a slower rate but a higher dose. Some interesting observations regarding mood but nothing to say we were in trouble. Communication clamped down and anxiety up then woosh - just like SSA gone !

It’s very interesting as our child also showed stress, pinching food from school to snack on and getting into trouble, probably caused by the lack of snacks and change in fridge content / weekly shop.

They don’t offer support for that sort of thing as an adverse event !

Thanks for your replies

No diagnosis or clues ….

Sending sympathies. 12 is a tough age where they’re starting to become aware of more, especially social cues and relationships, but can’t always verbalize or process what’s going on. Mine is barely 14 and by some miracle she’s verbalizing things more and we have a chance to talk through. Couple years ago for her meant withdrawal and not wanting to cause trouble or hurt anyone.

You didn’t mention ages but if your wife is older than 35-38 then perimenopause could be in the picture. It’s like reverse puberty: it takes an average of 10 years for the system to wind down. I’ve heard of “late” new moms at 41 going from postpartum directly into hard peri. I mention it because the drop in estrogen during peri and menopause can make life look very different to the woman (F48 here) and there are options but information is only marginally easier to find than for GLP-1s.

If I’m wrong then I will take my protein shake and drink it elsewhere. My goal is to help/inform, and most women don’t know what or when peri might move in. (Providers aren’t usually very educated.)

Hope things come around… you’ve got a lot going on.

Reports are coming out that mounjaro can cause depression lack of interest in anything etc and if this has happened to you the advice is to come off the drug after some time things will get back to normal. Best wishes
