I have to have Dental work done; For someone who has excellent teeth this is somewhat shocking but apparently I am grinding my teeth and need a crown. I have only had my wisdom teeth out and a single cavity, so my experience with the dentist is cleaning. Anyway is it safe to take Reta and KLOW then get the local anesthetic which I believe is lidocaine? I will of course have to tell the dentist I am taking Mounjaro just in case and see what they say but it seems like these things are not related but I actually don't know and my google-fu has failed. Any insight is appreciated.

BPC in KLOW can interact with morphine and other analgesics as well as anesthetics.

I don't think Reta practically affects much for getting a crown.

I don't think it will be a problem unless you end up requiring oral antibiotics after treatment. If this is the case, you don't want your digestion to be slowed in any way. Prescribing antibiotics for a simple crown would be unusual though. You might want to ask your dentist.

In situations like this always ask WWKRD?

(What Would Keith Richards Do)

You are good to go unless they are putting you under. If you go under you have to let them know because of the risk of Aspiration. Since the glp slows down digestion and the emptying of your digestive track the risk of food still being in you is increased. They will usually suggest 1-2 weeks no glp, or a 2-3 day liquid diet leading up to surgery.

Personal anecdote: I’ve been on Tirzepatide since Feb ‘26 and had to get two root canals in April ‘26 which required a total of 5 visits as the drill broke off in my root during the first attempt. Total of two 10-day rounds of oral antibiotics. I disclosed all my meds to both my dentist and the Endodontist and they didn’t mention anything about needing to be off tirz re: digestive slowing and antibiotics. All went well for me. I also took a daily probiotic capsule during April and part of May. YMMV.

I should have said “drill bit” but yeah…my whole life until now I’ve only had one cavity, so this was a LOT! And trying to find an endodontist who took my insurance AND would be willing to repair another practitioner’s work was not fun. Word to the wise: get your cleanings and X-Rays every 6 months! (Unlike past-me who ignored all things dental for a decade 🫣😅)
