Smart Scales - Opinions please

I've had several - but currently using Hume - the main thing is that they all have their accuracy challenges - and if you want exact, locating a Dexa is your best bet.

That said, use what you can afford and remember that it's just giving you a baseline to monitor the overall trend.

Renpho Elis 2x for me. Pretty accurate for something this cheap. Comparable to dexa scans which surprised me.
I just got this exact one yesterday and set it up this morning. It was on sale from $64 to $42 on Amazon. My weight is spot on what my top rated Etekcity $18 scale said. Obviously no frills. I just messed with the body fat deal a little after reading a about it. It said 29%, not sure as I've never had that tested, but seems high. I do have a little bit of a gut, so it might be close. At least I can track it.

Every time I go to start I new topic I find exactly what I’m looking for! Thanks for all the information, I have a Hume body pod on the way.

I'm late to the party but my two cents... I'm a sucker for consistent data. I bought two scales from Walmart, glass top (more rigid for better consistency), I weigh on one and verify on the other. The verify scale normally reads .2-1lb heavier than the weighing scale. If I get a variance greater than that I recalibrate both scales.

For composition I get DEXA scans. My first scan was supposed to be my starting baseline but the DEXA folk scheduled me ~45 days out and I lost 21lb during that time. Since then I've lost another ~20lb and got another DEXA. I plan on getting another in another ~20lb and how my trend maintains will determine the interval for the scan after that. I'm ~50lb from my optimistic target weight that should have visible abs. I plan on getting another DEXA once I'm steady at my target/goal weight, then another if I have a meaningful recomposition phase after that.

For me, impedance scales don't offer the repeatability I'm wanting, so I pay the money and drive an hour away for the DEXA scans.

Unfortunately for me, the closest place to get a DEXA scan is about 2 hours away. Since I'm almost at target weight, I'm going to focus more on body recomp so this might be a good time to just travel the 2 hours and get it done.

Edit to add that I'm still hanging onto my 10 year old Renpho for now 😆

TYSM! I also love all the data, and I know that my current Renpho is not giving me very accurate information. It’s a starting point, but I’m very scared of the muscle loss on GLP-1s, especially as I cross over into my 50s this year. It seems like $139 for an upgraded Renpho, or slightly more for other models is probably worth the investment.
To minimize muscle loss, ensure you’re getting consistent and adequate protein. Shoot for 1g/# of body weight.

That is awesome progress! I’m happy for you.

For sure! Already have my macros dialed in, but I admit that on some days it’s a struggle to meet them.

After discovering that the accuracy of these scales had diminishing returns, and even dexa can be questionable, I ended up with an etekcity from Amazon for $80 or so. It's consistent with what I see in the mirror.

A friend bought the same scale after researching the high $ models. Best features for the cost.
i know it is not calibrated or anything, the weight at least is accurate. At the very least it is comparative over time to itself. I am happy with it.

I have a Withings brand with all the bells and whistles. Can't really recommend their more expensive scales. The visceral fat levels appear to be straight up wrong for me. It told me I had a nice level at 5'4" with a 41" waist and visible apron belly. Very hard to believe and makes the rest of the readings somewhat suspect. The bf% does seem to correlate with a visual check. At this point I just use it for weight. I do like the app. It's very easy to customize displays and measurements. I find the daily forecast quite useful. I would consider buying them again but not their top of the line model. I also have their automated blood pressure cuff and it appears accurate.

My Renpho lasted about 2 years before becoming unreliable. The second one I have purchased to have that issue.
