They are made to be able to use the top as a reusable cap. The idea is to open on the opposite side of the attached tab (there is usually an arrow pointing at the place to open) then leave the cap attached.I bought 2 kits of something from a new to me vendor recently. All of their vial crimps open this way. I'm used to my main vendors vial tops just popping off, without tearing the crimp. My questions are, how do I tell which vendors have crimps like this and are most people fine with this?

Well, you learn something new every day. They are made to be able to use the top as a reusable cap. The idea is to open on the opposite side of the attached tab (there is usually an arrow pointing at the place to open) then leave the cap attached.
If that is the intention, I don't see it being used that way often. It doesn't work for me anyway. They are made to be able to use the top as a reusable cap. I agree, the design could be better. I am switching over to pens, so I don't really need to reuse the tops on my vials. If that is the intention, I don't see it being used that way often. It doesn't work for me anyway.
