What do you consider a stall in your weight loss journey?

What's your stall look like? Thanks
Good advice above. I trend it monthly… I track every calorie on MyFitnessPal…. Started mid- April 2024 at 352 lbs with a 1200 calorie diet ….now I am 222 lbs. I would have 1-2 week periods with no weight loss….. mainly due to constipation. That has gotten better at lower body weights.

Trending it monthly my weight loss was a consistent average of 12 lbs a month after the 2nd month. I also use the MyFitnessPal app calories and weight loss to calculate what my BMR is and it is close to the online BMR calculators.

I don't track calories but do loosely track in my head. I tend to eat the same thing every day with the exception of dinner. If I go >2 weeks with no loss I change something up. Usually it's eat a couple of hundred extra calories one day. If I have been on the same dose for more than about 6 weeks and feel food noise coming back I also consider increasing my dose.

I am currently at the equivalent of 10mg Tirz per week (7.2mg every 5 days). I am within 15 lbs of goal weight so if I need to go up, I'm going up, my risk of maxing at 15mg (if this is still the max) is pretty low.

TLDR - if you don't weigh you won't care about stalls.

I've only weighed twice in a year of Tirz. Both times at my PCP's office. The first time it had been 8mos (11wks on 2.5mg 23wks on 5mg) and I had lost 70lbs. Dr told me to quit losing weight so the second time at 11mos I wore a big hoodie and cargo pants with weights in the pockets. I was afraid she'd yank my Mounjaro script if I'd lost more. Despite the weights in my pockets the scale was still lower and she again told me to stop losing weight.

I don't know why I care if she pulls my script because even with insurance gray is 75% cheaper and I've got many year's worth in the freezer. My upcoming March physical with her is causing anxiety. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and give her an honest weight which will show at least a 12lb further loss and she won't be happy. I'll say one of my other doctors encouraged me to lose more weight and reset my goal because of all the positives (and for me there have been many! Labs, kidney disease improvement etc). It'll be a partial lie because every doctor ever told me to lose weight.

A whole life of dieting and obsessing over the scale (OCD). When I started Tirz I told myself to be realistic, no scale, no gym, no diet.

She has you on a GLP-1 and doesn't want you losing weight?

I'm at a good weight now. I have a liver transplant with a "high risk" organ. Post transplant diabetes mellitus is a leading cause of rejection so I'm treated as a diabetic and check glucose daily. Prescription was for glucose control.

Ah gotcha, makes way more sense. Good luck with the transplant, hope everything continues to go well!

Just looking at weight can be deceiving. You can still be losing fat and the scale might not move.

Some potential confounding factors:

1) You're building lean body mass. A lot of people start doing resistance training for the first time when going on these GLP-1s, and noob gains are a real thing. If you were losing 1-2 lb a month before, a high protein diet and regular resistance training could see you gain 10-20lb of muscle in your first year and mask things on the scale.

2) You're retaining more water weight. Adding in GH secretagogues? An ipa/tesa stack is going to cause you retain more water. Lifting weights and supplement creatine? Same thing. Lots of other things that can cause it, too. Started up TRT at the same time and you don't have all your levels dialed in yet? Increasing your E2 will increase water retention. All these except the E2 are also going to increase muscle gains if you're training, as well.

Appreciate your reply and thoughtfulness that went into it. The added detail provides context a lot of us may overlook.

For me a stall is gaining and losing the same 4-5 lbs for a month.
I’m a bit frustrated, because I have NO appetite and live on protein shakes and salads.. I’m making my calorie goals most days but not all. (Lower if not met). I may be changing shape though- I put on a pair of shorts I haven’t worn for a month and they’re loose right out of the dryer.. but dangit, the scale needs to come on already!! 🫤

What's a good protein shake? I really rely on these to hit my chocolate button.

one RS likes the Premiere Protien strawberry and cream, another like Premiere Chocolate, 3rd RS is a fan of the fairlife core power Chocolate

powder wise only one RS has researched this and premiere is the only one that is tasty so far, Orgain Organic from Costco tasted fake, MuscleTech - Nitro Tech, Vanilla is ok but will not purchase a gain (powering thru 5lb tub), need to try smaller amounts of other powders so we don't get stuck w/ stuff that is challenging to research.

I haven’t found one yet. Fairlife is tolerable, but most times I make my own- 4 scoops of Isopure unflavored protein, 8-12 oz coffee, 1 cup milk and a splash of coffee creamer. Sometimes I skip the coffee and use a few more oz of milk, a scoop of coco powder and a tsp of vanilla extract.

I consider a stall, 2 weeks or more without losing any weight. If it's almost a month, it's time to up my dosage or add a little extra something.

I'll try a case of Fairlife. I think I've seen those at Costco too.

Another vote for fairlife... will try.

Atkins Strong Chicolate. 30 g of protein, 7g of pre and probiotic fiber. I pop it in the freezer for an hour, grab a straw, and drink up. I think it's delicious.

Atkins Strong Chocolate... at 30g of protein it seems to likely run slightly higher in calories than the 20g average I see across the board.

I like Fairlife the best- the standard 30g
but tastes like chocolate milk

Another vote for Fairlife. Nice.

Random thoughts:

I used to really like the Muscle Milk RTD Chocolate but it started having a strange taste I can't quite place. They're also quite thick and sometimes struggle to get it out of the container.

I've also tried the Optimum Nutrition Gold from Amazon and I don't hate those. I'd say they're fairly decent.

Right now I'm working my way through the Orgain RTD shakes from Costco. And they're decent.

Powder is tough for me, as I dread the cleanup/mess required to get something that tastes good (blender, ice, etc). So if it doesn't mix up in a shaker bottle with just cold water and taste great, I'm out... so that rules out most of the powders on the market.

I really do need a chocolate fix at the end of the day. Not sure why. I can do a portion of a Hershey bar... only eating a few squares. They're surprisingly low in calories this way, but I'd rather it be something more healthy than that...

I'll give Fairlife a try next time we got to Costco.

Thank you for mentioning a vendor. So tired of the gatekeeping 😀

Sam's Club sells Fairlife Core too (including online, with free shipping at $50), but I am not big on Fairlife's protein drinks because they have too much calcium. I could also be getting burned out on lower-carb drinks, tastewise. But since you like Muscle Milk, anything tastes better to me than that 🙂

The crazy thing is I lost more weight on Fairlife chocolate milk (with less protein and more tasty sugar), but that was during my initial weight loss period.

Oh, good to know. My daughter is going to have a heart and liver transplant in the next year or so. I had no idea that diabetes mellitus is something we will need to be aware of! We are still in the early testing stages for the transplant list, so we haven't gone over this stuff with the doctors yet. I hope you do well with your liver!

Yeah, not fun. But she was born with complex heart defects that required the Fontan Procedure (it re-routes all the heart's plumbing, but trashes the liver eventually) and she's one of the oldest living adults who underwent the Fontan as an infant, so we knew this was coming. She's paving the way for babies worldwide. What happens to her (and other Fontan adults) is how they will be able to predict the likely future for the babies getting the Fontan now. There are less than 100,000 Fontan patients in the world right now.
