Hey all, recently these past few days ive been getting what I think is called either Acid Reflux or GERD. Ive been eating meals during the afternoon that were pretty fatty and greasy sometimes but towards the night time whenever id lay down in bed id get a really uncomfortable burning sensation that would go up from my chest to my throat. Id find that every now and then as im laying down i have to stand straight up and burp a bunch of times to help relieve it and empty out the gasses in my stomach. Is this something serious where I should lower my dose or is there anything I should be doing to prevent it? Just for some more context i was on 1 mg of reta for about 2 weeks and did not feel any bad side effects so i increased it to 2 mg and thinking now it might be too much and i should try 1.5.

Take a closer look at how you prepare your food, because cooking methods can make a significant difference. For example, I personally cook all my meat using a George Foreman grill, which allows the fat to drain away and removes the need for added oils. This change alone can reduce the overall fat content of meals, which is important if you are dealing with acid reflux. I used to struggle daily with unhealthy eating habits, and the impact was severe, especially waking up in the morning with acid already built up, leading to a burning, uncomfortable sensation that could last for hours. However, once I started paying attention not only to what I was eating but also how I was cooking it, the difference was dramatic. Choosing lean meats and preparing them in a way that avoids excess grease can go a long way in preventing acid reflux symptoms and improving overall digestive comfort

I strongly recommend Omeprazole. The unbranded version is cheap. It takes a day or so for it to kick in, but the effect lasts for days. I had horrible reflux that interfered with my sleep when I started Tirz and Omeprazole got me through it. Over time I reduced my dose. Then the reflux just magically went away at some point. Haven't taken a pill in 10 weeks.

Thank you for the suggestion i might pick some up at my nearby walgreens cause its really been interfering with my sleep recently. Been waking up like every hour or so just to stand up and burp and let it settle and go back to bed which is not ideal because i work and dont wanna keep having interrupted sleep

Heartburn, It's the Reta. It kind of goes away, but on shot day wife and I both get it. I keep Tum on my nightstand and sometimes pop one right before I lay down.

I have also been getting some acid reflux at night since titrating up to 2mg/week. Had not had heart burn for years. Small price to pay for the benefits, just need to take some antacids or adjust sleeping positions.

Yep. It's the reta. It's worse for me with some foods, anything really fatty or almond flour (interestingly enough). The heartburn only happens at night for me though. I'm a side sleeper, typically my right side, which is condusive to heart burn because of how your organs sit in that position (or so I read, but seems to be the case). Since shifting to my left side and taking an antacid before bed, it's been manageable. Maybe that works for you!

Yea for me i notice its only at night when i try to sleep and sleeping on my side is still bad but nothing like being on my back. Today however I ate a more cleaner meal, less fatty and greasy and will see how i feel tonight.

Hopefully smooth sailing, no dawn patrol, best sleep of your life!

I just started having the "Sulphur burps". I am surprised since I have been using Reta for several weeks. I am at 4mg and this is the 3rd week at that dosage. I'll give y'all recommendations a shot.

Mine was from the citric acid and malic acid in my pre-workout and BCAA that I drank.
Add to that hot oatmeal and coffee.
My Dr. gave me "Mylan-Pantoprazole 40mg"

I cut out all the acidic drinks, took the meds. That allowed the lining in my esophagus to heal.

Now I have to take things in moderation so it doesn't repeat.

I have pretty intense acid reflux. For one avoid spicy, greasy food. If you're having a night of drinking be prepared because it's going to act up.

I take pepcid AC before bed to avoid waking up in the middle of the night after a high alcohol night or eating the mentioned food above. Anti acid tablets as well. My Doctor reccomended that.

If you know you're going to eat out before hand take a pepcid AC tablet it helps.

That's been my biggest side effect.

Acid reflux is extremely common, more so if overweight or obese and GLP drugs also commonly cause it or make it worse. It is basically stomach acid leaking back upwards into your osephagus , and burning it causing pain and discomfort. If long term it can cause serious damage and definitely needs medical assessment, but here it is due to reta and is hopefully temporary.

Standard ways or reducing it are antacids , h2 blockers or proton pump inhibitors like omeprazole. Also eating smaller meals, not drinking water with meals, eating earlier in the day relative to bed time. And not drinking fluids before bed. As in this case it is caused by reta, the slow gastric emptying and general stomach upsetting effect is relevant, so less fatty diet might help as well. And you can prop the head of the bed up on bricks so gravity can help.

It might be worth going back down doses a bit, and going up slowly. Having to stay on reflux treatment like omeprazole long term on reta is pretty common. And much better than just trying to ignore it as if it hurts it is doing damage.

I have what's called LPR, which is similar, no heartburn but globus sensation, low voice, throat mucus. What I hate the most is chest pain when I lay down, sometimes it gets me a bit anxious, been to ER in the middle of the night etc but it was just reflux.

Worst enemies are spicy foods and orange juice / coke.

I sometimes take a gaviscon advance just before going to sleep and it helps. I don't trust PPIs for my condition

No matter what I do I get acid. Tried antacids, tums, digestive enzymes, watching what I’m eating. I bit the bullet and decided to start taking omeprazole. It’s an everyday pill and if you stop you might get rebound reflux but it should help more than the other options if it’s a continues chronic symptom.

Same with the right side sleeping, it's true. I hate sleeping on my left side. I just roll to my back, or pop a tums.

I had this on Tirz until I finally figured out I needed to make sure I wasn't eating anything less than 4 hours from bed. It resolved within a few days if implementing that.

I was diagnosed with Gerd years ago. Doc told me to elevate bed where I lay my head 8 degrees. I never lifted my bed but did use pillows to lift upper body up a bit. I have learned what to do. No red sauce last meal of day. No eating 4 hours before bed. No lemonade, orange juice..citric acid. Chili for lunch only. Drink beer early. I have to really watch all of this as I move to Reta from Tirz. I'm lowering Tirz and adding reta over the next 3 months. If all goes like planned, Reta will be only pep I will use for now. Oh, shot day for reta has caused heartburn for my first two so far. Only for a day regardless of how careful I am with my diet. Best of luck.

Generic Voquezna is available from India and was a miracle pill. I had some degree of heartburn almost all day, predating my GLP use. Sleeping in a recliner also helped.

Is that still still around?
Yep. Generic name of Voquezna is vonoprazan, available at AllDayChemist and IndiaMart. I bought it from Kawal last year, even though not on his website (DMOnlineMeds). So Beyond Care may have it too (BeyondMedex). With all the IndianMart sellers their websites are only a subset of their inventory. I also bought it from ReliableRx/AllDayChemist.

India is also a good source for pet meds. There are a couple GBs for pet meds from India to help manage the customs situation and the shipping costs.

I had exactly that - was my birthday and overdosed on chocolate and cake for a couple of days and had the worst heartburn at night. I could only sleep on my left hand side. Removing the fatty food def made a big difference.

So I titrated up to 2mg a week and had no sides. When I increased from there I got what some used to called the ketoflu for about two days. That’s when the acid reflux/heart burn kicked in. I was noticeable at night it would wake me up. I did noticed if would be if i ate too late so i timed me feedings better. But now I’m at 4mg and the only time i get acid reflux now is when i need to eat. Not sure if anyone else has had this happen to them . I’ve literally been woken up to it consistently between 2-3am and had to eat a small bit of carbs to get it to subside and get back to sleep.

Dude no way this might have been what I got. Since the last few days I havent had any more issues at all with it. Now im wondering if i also just had it temporarily

Definitely heart burn…I it get too on Reta especially if I eat anything that’s fried or acidic. Drink some milk and or antacid tablet like Tums. Be careful with the other pills, some you can only use for 14 days.

Yeah, my EP really wants me to sleep on my right side to minimize stroke risks from AFib, but everytime I do, I get heartburn because of the ultra slow stomach emptying from GLP-1s.

Legit went away after about a week when i got up to 4mg and i noticed it was the worst when i ate too close to bed or something higher in fat.
