Reta & Alcohol

It is so insane but I can barely finish 1 glass of wine at my weekly happy hour with the girls. I used to do 3 easily. Our waitress had to learn to ask me before bringing me another. LOL

Another odd side effect is I have also lost my desire to hit the blackjack tables. I never even think about going to any of the casinos now. I will have to do some reflecting and see if I have lost any other bad habits. I take Tirz not Reta just FYI.

I've had two beers in 8 months on Reta, and each of those took an hour to drink. This is after having been a hard drinker for over 20 years. It wasn't even anything that I was aware of, or consciously trying to do, but I have lost all desire for alcohol. People can drink in front of me, or try to twist my arm, and they are no longer triggers for me. I'm just not interested anymore. I'll always have some around for this effect alone, because I like that alcohol, or the absence of it, isn't a driving force in my life any longer.
This !

Has anyone here who normally enjoys being drunk actually been drunk while on reta? I understand the lack of desire to actually drink, but how does it feel when you are drinking a substantial amount?

I've lost interest in going out getting drunk over the last year or so, but not because of reta, I've only been on it for 2 weeks. I just got tired of it and I'm more focused on my goals than caring about getting drunk. Saying that, there are a couple occasions coming up in the next couple months where I'm basically scheduling a break to go out drinking with friends. I'm wondering if it's still going to be the same fun, enjoyable feeling once I'm drunk as it normally is. One of the occasions is my bachelor party, so I'm definitely going to be getting drinks bought for me lol.

You will drink much less even if you want to drink more, I have tried. If you can manage to drink enough, it hits harder because of slow stomach emptying and less food I think so pay closer attention to your tipsy meter than usual!

Did you notice yourself getting a buzz sooner/with less drinks? Or just a worse hangover with none of the enjoyment?
answerig from a different perspective. personally, i didnt notice anything like this, nor did it slow the drinking. it seems to be very independent to how everyone reacts. Some dont even really get the food noise quietening down.
i literally have no issue downing any alcohol and still dont get hangovers, but then others who cant even have 1 beer because they feel it straight away.

Thanks, I'll definitely pay attention. I'm actually pretty used to eating zero carbs and protein only leading up to drinking, I always put it into my nutrition app so I keep my calories in range, so drinking when I'm expecting it to hit harder is something I'm pretty used to managing. I'll definitely keep it in mind though!

Zero buzz at all - 100% just empty calories that made me feel gross. It is no joke that this stuff could cure alcoholism.
There are actually studies happening right now with incertins and addiction. I have been on Reta about month and I'm drinking less but I still like beer it's just I have a high enough tolerance that enough to make me buzzed is going to make me feel sick and bloated from the liquid intake alone.

Being drunk feels mostly the same for me. I enjoy it more on Reta, perhaps because I’m going at a slower pace than before, but still getting the social and ‘good feelz’ benefits from alcohol.

Fortunately, I haven’t experienced the worsened hangovers everyone talks about. I typically hydrate a lot when I drink, so maybe it’s more to do with the that.
It's the sugar and carbs that give people the hangovers, if you are a mixed drink or wine drinker they are way worse on all glps

That makes sense. I drink either beer or Bourbon on the rocks with nothing added. Can’t do sugary drinks.

I just get fuller faster. I was at a bar the other day and my god it took me an hour to drink 1.5 beers. I still drink though and I do not get buzzed faster like others are saying.

this. i never get hangovers, but i noticed if i drink beer now, i wake up with a headache. If i drink spirits straight or with soda water, i dont get a headache

You can still get a hangover from just the alcohol effects but the sugar makes it way worse. Wine hangovers have always been notorious for this reason.

I went to a show and bought two rtd margaritas. I was struggling to even start, let alone finish the second one but wanted it gone before the band started so forced it down. Regretted it the whole time trying to mosh. So for me it's the fact that I get full so quickly haha. Previously I would pregame on the way, then have several more at the venue and be thinking of more between sets.

Started Reta on March 2 and had been a regular beer drinker for years. Beers sounds awful for me on this. Went to a few breweries a couple of weeks ago with friends and had no desire to drink.

Bourbon on the other had I'm finding that I still enjoy 1 or 2 on Friday and Saturday nights. Would usually previously have put down 4 or 5.

I've switched to drinking Long Drinks and other sugar free seltzers when out socializing.

On top of that, these drugs slow gastric emptying significantly, which changes how alcohol is absorbed. Normally alcohol absorption depends on how fast it reaches the small intestine, and when the stomach empties slowly, the absorption becomes slower and more erratic. The rapid onset that makes drinking feel rewarding is essentially gone.

This has been fascinating. My desire to drink (and my drinking) in general has gone way down and last week I was out with friends decided to "force" myself to have a few drinks and I never got that buzzed or drunk feeling I would normally start feeling after a few drinks (which in turn is just another thing that discourages you from drinking).

I have had 3 times in the 5 weeks that I have had > 1 drink in a night, the first time I had 4-5 drinks and I felt pretty buzzed/intoxicated - but this was about 4-5 days after my first ever injection. Since then the other 2 times which were 3 and 5 weeks after my first dose and neither of those times I felt anything, no buzz, nothing. Honestly just felt tired and like a waste off time.

I came here to say this! I was drinking mostly beer prior to starting Tirz in October, followed by Reta in January. I was probably drinking 70+ units a week for YEARS. I don't think I have been drunk in the sense I used to since I started these meds.

The times I drink 3-4 drinks when out with friends I generally feel like complete ass the next day. There will be a little buzz that may go along with the drinks, but I don't really like the feeling anymore.

My wife it's hit even harder. She used to enjoy a wine or cocktail but I rarely will see her even finish a single drink.

Beer in particular has been almost impossible. I used to be able to put down 5-10 light beers relatively "easily" and post-Reta I can barely have one. I had 2 a week ago and felt full/bloated for basically 24 hours. Not sure if it's the carbonation or what.

Reta has broken the behavior of "I had a very stressful day/week, I'm going to down a few beers to calm down"

I have been able to enjoy a beer (single), slowly, and spaced away from meals. Nothing like before where a Friday night after work i might drink a between 6 and 12.

I’m on week 2 and I still enjoy a few beers once a week. I do drink less of them though. I just haven’t found that Reta suppressed my want to drink much. Maybe it takes time?

Probably being only 2 weeks in.

I'm never having a drink again on this stuff. I had one single drink and all was fine until about 2-3 hours later and got some of the worst nausea I've ever had in my life.

I gave up drinking a good few years ago, and the only time I make an exception is when on holiday....then I sip cold beer whole days round, taking a sunbathing near the swimming pool, or on the beach. Just booked my holiday in the sun, and I'm afraid it might be spoiled, because I can't even think about any alcohol when on Reta now. Will have to stick to the lovely coconut water, they have in Spain, and it's the only liquid I used to drink except beer when out there 😆

I still go out for drinks with friends and I have switched to drinking bacardi+diet coke because it is soooo much easier to put down. I'm pretty sure I look like picrel drinking beer now, so it was a necessary switch given that no one knows I take PEDs.
