Is anyone have trouble with the lids on ERP vials not tearing off cleanly?

So far it has only been a problem with my last Tesa batch and my recent NAD+ batch. I try to go around the perimeter of the cap and separate it from the metal cap, but I still have an issue with about every other cap not breaking from the lid and causing it to tear a bit down the side. As soon as I notice it happening, I have to flex the cap back and forth to break cleanly. I'm hoping the couple millimeters of tearing down the side hasn't compromised the seal. I know it did on one vial because the runner plug actually popped up. That was a sad day. I mash the metal ring down when it happens and I'm hoping the seal is good. I've never had this issue with hundreds of other vials. Maybe they changed suppliers.

The crimp ring has a designed weak spot to tear when you remove the lid. I have no clue why they picked that style ring to use.

If you minimize the area torn, there's not a problem with the seal. The ring is to keep the stopper in place mechanically, a minor tear near the top shouldn't aversely affect the pressure on the rubber stopper.

It's happened to me too, but as far as I remember, there's no pattern to it. Every now and then, there's that one vial cap that just doesn't break cleanly.

Hey - quick question. Do they send COAs (e.g. Janoshik links) with their kits? I don't mean any old COAs, but rather COAs with the same batch number as the one on the vials.

Do you have a photo? Some vials are meant to have a top that stays attached on one side to be able to use the top as a reusable top. There is usually an arrow pointing up on the opposite side of where it stays attached. You are supposed to push the top up at that arrow, and not tear it completely off.

I don't think its vendor specific as I find it happening one in a kit on average with different vendors. Not an issue if you're filtering into a new vial.

I'm six vials into an ERP kit of NAD+ and not one of them has opened clean. It's a bit of a pain in the ass wrangling them, but the product is just fine and tested well.

Nothing per se, but you have no idea if it's sterile or not. Filtering into a known, fresh sterile vial with an appropriate filter takes away that concern.

Are you saying that it's OK to pop the lid off if you're just using it to recon then filter?

I mean, I don't know if I'd pop the entire thing off, but if there are some rough edges its probably fine. All I do I reconstitute in the vendor vial, pull it out, then filter into a brand new, sterile vial.

Not necessary, its mostly an issue with the metal tearing on the ring when removing the cap. I have used many with torn metal rings

So long as the rubber stopper stays in place , it is fine. If the entire metal cap comes off then you need to be a bit careful not to accidentally get the stopper to come off when putting needles in and out, but only missing part of the metal cap is a non issue and is usually fine to prevent accidentally popping off the rubber stopper. If the rubber thing comes of then it is no longer sterile.

Happens to me with my SS31 vials I got from ERP. I will look for the arrow once I get home!

Happens to me all the time w/one of my vendor's vials.

The work around is to lift lightly on one side, go to the other and do the same...then the cap will usually have a clean break away without that metal tearing.

They gotta have a new vendor for vials. ERP has been my go to for awhile and this jsut started happening. Today on my TB vial I rocked the cap back and forth to break the metal before it ripped down the side. the BPC vial no issues.

I did look in the trash and saw an arrow though on another cap. I didn't have issues with that one tearing off though.

Yep. Got home to find the arrow. Bit of an oddity like how water bottles now don't come off fully either.

Nice! My arrows are on the actual crimp. For those who don't see one on the cap....check the crimp.

Only one time have had an issue with this. And this was removing the plastic cap from a bottle of BAC water, not a peptide. It sort of tore off a small section of the metal ring around the rubber stopper. Since the rubber stopper seemed to not be affected, I used it anyway.

Thank You!! I have had the same issue with vials of NAD+ from Amino Lair. I checked the cap and it has an arrow on the cap. I'll try your method and not tear it off on the next vial.

I posted about this recently. The kits didn't have batch numbers and the cap colours didn't match to Coa.
