Reconstituting doesn't phase me but I do have some questions if some of you more experienced folk would be able to help please?

Thinking my first order will be: 10mg mixed with 2ml BAC to give me 5 x 2mg shots (drawn at 40 units from a 1 ml syringe).

My questions may seem dumb but just for the avoidance of doubt.

1. If my syringe is only 1ml can I just reconstitute with 2 lots of 1ml with same syringe? Or do I need a bigger syringe to do all at once?
2. The remaining 1ml of the of the BAC water I guess I just throw away? Not worth keeping for the next vial?
3. Can the reconstituted vial be stored on its side in the fridge or does it have to stay upright?

I think that's it for now.

Partially personal preference, but I target 20 units as a good dose volume, which for your example would be 1ml of water for a 10mg vial. In your case, that's handy because you have a 1ml syringe for the recon. You can overdraw a bit on a syringe, which is what I do, maybe 103 units actual water. The extra is to allow for a little dead space losses as you dose out of the vial. Otherwise you'll end up short on the last dose. It's not absolutely accurate, just consistent. You're not going to get absolute dose accuracy in any case. Vials are +/- 15% of the mass of product by themselves.

I've seen examples of people doing multiple draws with a syringe to transfer the water in a recon. I personally wouldn't do it that way for several reasons. Primarily because 1ml will work great for your example.

Sounds like you're using generic unlabeled BAC. Good BAC can be saved and used later. In the case of unlabeled BAC, if you can get more later, I'd toss the left over. And try to obtain some Hospira BAC or equivalent next time.

I've never worried about the orientation of vials in my refrigerator.

Easiest with Reta to do 1ml/10mg IMHO. That way 10 units = 1mg, 20 =2, 30 = 3, etc.

Just buy 3ml and 5ml luer lock syringes with luer lock 1.5" needles, and some 1/2" luer lock needles. You'll need these for filtering anyways. Time to read more kids and watch a few YT videos.

1. yes, it's even more precise than a 3ml
2. keep it for the next recon. Then you'll have 2ml left in the next BAC vial for another recon.
Note: You can also reconstitute with 1.5ml (5x0.30ml).
3. consider the septum septic: every time you pierce it with a needle, bacteria enter (pseudomonas from the air, staph on your skin, lots of stuff around you from your breath if you don't wear a mask).
Don't make it easy for them by helping them enter because the septum will remain in contact with the solution. So always keep it vertical after recon.
