Going way over 28 day window?

I ordered Reta 15mg, an intend to use 1mg doses. Potentially this means a vial will last me 15 weeks, which is way over the sometimes recommended 28 day window.

How serious of a problem is this? Anything I can do?

If it was Tirz, I wouldn't hesitate to use it that long (assuming you use good hygiene when piercing the vial). But we don't know enough about reta yet to know how long it lasts.

Sterility-wise, you should be fine, as long as you always scrub the vial with an alcohol swab before drawing into the syringe. Otherwise, the main concern would probably be degradation, causing it to be less effective. I can't speak to how quickly that happens.

Really odd because I went beyond the 28 day window on my tirz (week five) and for the very first time I experienced fairly major irritation at the injection site that lasted about 3 days. Strangely, the injection site didn’t turn red or cause a welt, but I did experience a stinging pain and major itchiness that was quite irritating.

It was just standard PGB t30 that I’d been using successfully without issues and then that happened. It wasn’t cloudy and the bac water was brand new when I reconstituted. I was going to make a post asking about it because I couldn’t find a similar scenario.

Could it have possibly been because I went over the 28 window or could it have just been user error? Like maybe because I poked the needle in differently or I didn’t let the alcohol dry after wiping the injection site area. It’s a mystery and I’m wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I have one more dose in the vial but now I’m thinking it would be unwise to use it.

Many people here consider 3 months good... assuming alcohol-swabbing the vial top before recon (Hospira bac water only) and before each time you draw a dose. And of course refrigerating for all but the couple of minutes when you're using it.

Personally, I'd go four months. But it's a judgment-continuum call which you'll need to make for yourself.

In my opinion, the itchiness probably isn’t related to going past the 28-day mark. I’ve used tirz for up to 12 weeks before and didn’t notice any drop in effectiveness. I think it’s just something that can happen over time. I’ve heard others mention similar reactions. For me, it started around week 7 or 8, even when I was using compounded tirz.

To this day, I still get some itchiness for a few days after injecting, but it’s nothing bad. I’ve tried everything people usually suggest like waiting for the alcohol to dry, letting it come to room temperature before injecting, icing it afterwards, etc., and it still happens. So I’d just say to keep an eye on it and make sure you’re always consistent with hygiene when injecting (which sounds like you are). Obviously if things start getting worse then definitely stop using it. But if it’s just a few days of itchiness or small welts, I don’t think it’s anything to stress about.

I've read in some other forums where persons claim to have been on maintenance protocol with Reta and used 10/12 mg vials for 8-12 weeks with no adverse effects. Claimed they still felt the benefits. I get this isn't much help. So many variables, sterility, storage, bac water used and age. If the vial has no floaters, remains clear it may be fine to continue to use. But I would suggest you become the experiment at that point. Personally, if the purity being above 99% and volume was on point for the vial in question. I'd just ensure refrigeration, hygiene, disposition of the vial (no cloudy or discoloration, particles) I'd continue to use it and just really focus on how I felt for a period of time after injection.

Thank you, @ohemaaluxe 🙂

Sorry, I didn’t mean to highjack this thread but my question/experience was kind of related. It’s good to know that the reaction is fairly common. And I’m definitely careful about making sure everything is sterile and wiped down with alcohol wipes. I guess I should feel comfort in the fact that other than the itching, the tirz was otherwise fine. I didn’t feel any different than after my usual pinnings.

Thanks again for your reassurance! 😊

You most likely just hit a spot that had a nerve ending.
