CAT THREAD.

We currently have eight cats. Seven full cats and one trans-dog, James I of Felidae. Jimmy is the most obese, loving member of the pack. Jimmy thinks he's a dog in a cat's body. He licks us, wags his tail, and lies down on his back with his paws stretched/splayed out. He loves/needs belly rubs.
It all began four years ago when I was in Toronto. Here in the US, a grumpy chonk strolled into our garage and decided to make the laundry area its domain. My folks and brother decided it was okay to name it Tom/Thomas. I guess it was all fine and dandy until Tom gave birth to six kittens. And so it began.

All y'all with your beautiful stuffed-animal longhairs. I'm looking wistfully at these pics WITH my darling (who is shorthaired) on my lap and it feels like a betrayal. But the cat distro system pretty much only blesses me with shorthairs, and I'd never turn down a cat if I were in the market for a cat, because it wasn't a longhair, so alas.

I went to the shelter in search of a short haired ginger, but I've got one of each as he came as a set with his brother. I used to think the long haired would be the most labor intensive to groom and care for in the shedding department, but it's actually the short haired ginger dude who sheds soooo much. It's shorter and lighter so I think it blends in more with the carpet, blankets, duvet, etc. but when I vacuum the damn container is full of orange/white. The long hair is actually pretty easy - I just give him a 5-10 minute groom each night before his treat and he's a happy camper and I can dispose of all that fur he would otherwise risk a hairball over.
All this is to say, I thought I was a short hair only kind of person, but am very happy with both!

mine loves a good groom with tha slicker. But I am allergic to him, so I think he knows and loves to see me suffer, and that's why he's purring

regardless, I do a lot of vacuuming lol

I m getting myself a siamese and a shiba when I have more time
We added runt siblings - a Siamese (Remo) and a Tortie (Skippy / "Sis") to our family a few years ago.

"Sis" is really quite lovely (not as spicy as most Calicos thankfully, although we think she might have a bit of the 'tism). Hands down one of the most photogenic cats I've ever seen.

Remo (Siamese) is without a doubt unlike any other cat we've ever had - exceptionally smart and affectionate.

We lived in an apartment that had lightweight hollow doors and he would jump up and unlatch the door lock by hanging on the lever every night to get access to us. (I'll have to see if I can locate the old video of him doing it). We eventually had to resort to using a doorstop. We now live in a house with solid doors, and he still jiggles the bedroom door handle every night; but bless his heart he doesn't have the body weight to open them (8lbs and not getting any bigger).

He also selected me as his #1 cuddle buddy and my heart just melts every time. For everyone else in the house it's absolutely sickening, I'm sure. ❤️

Every day, during my morning coffee before work we have a routine where he sits with me, and more recently he has taken to "training" me by putting his paw on my belly - my signal to unzip my hoodie, help him get tucked in, and then zip it back up. He'll stay in there for hours if I let him (and I have, of course I'd do anything for this guy).

awww what sweet faces!!

Thought you cat lovers would appreciate this! (Don't worry, she will be spayed shortly.)
A friend reached out last week saying they had a young cat/kitten that had shown up a few months ago and was living in a barn on their property and was pregnant. She was super friendly and would come say hi when they got out of their cars etc but they were not cat people. We have a farm and they knew I was looking for a barn cat or two. The friend said she thought she had a couple weeks left but wasn't sure.
Upon picking up mama cat it was clear she had less than a week left. She was very big. Very. Big.
We have had her for 2 days and she's just given birth to 6 healthy, adorable kittens! For a first time mama that is a lot of babies.
They are sooooo cute! Daddy was suspected to be an orange tom from a neighboring farm, and mama is a 'caliby' or calico-tabby.
Babies are:
Female orange
Female orange
Female dilute orange
Female classic calico
Female dilute calico (mainly grey body)
Male orange and white

Yes, I am aware how uncommon female oranges are. But they're definitely females. According to ai, a certain parent combo allows for female oranges and these kittens had that combo. Something about the X alleles. Mama passed on her orange X allelle and dad always does, so orange females! Pretty dang cool!
My vet tech friend confirmed via photos and chat gpt and perplexity ai also agreed with the anatomy determinations.

My kids are thrilled to have sweet kitties. All I can think about is getting this mama spayed lol. We have two male cats and they're neutered but I don't mess around with cats lol. They're sluts. 😅

Presenting……Apple the Cat, she’s a fatty fatty 2x4 (she likes to sit at the table while we eat 😂) and Rowena Raisinpaw, the mean bean (named cause she’s actually very mean)

My kiddos cat, and my boyfriends cat 😍😭IMG_1615.webpIMG_0411.webp
