The USA has always been faster to hurt its own people than help them.
The list of highest incarceration per capita summarizes our issues neatly.
- El Salvador: 1,659 per 100,000
- Cuba: 794 per 100,000
- Rwanda: 620 per 100,000
- Turkmenistan: 576 per 100,000
- United States: 541 per 100,000 🦅🦅🦅🇺🇸 🇺🇸 🇺🇸
On the low end...
There are two ways to look at this information and neither is an uplifting conclusion.
If we believe that a nation like Norway has a reasonable incarceration rate, why is America's 10x higher?
Ten times!
If our 10x rate is reasonable then we are a nation of
monsters.
On the other hand, if Americans aren't
that different than Norwegians, then we have a massive
over-policing problem.
Even if the truth is somewhere in between, say Norway is under-policing by several times, the USA still looks
insane.
If grey GLP-1 meds start taking real money out of pharma's pocket, today's news could be just the beginning.
Be careful. There is a large system out to get you. Don't be the easiest target.
