Spouse just started Reta at 1mg yesterday and says she hasn't felt any change in hunger or other effects other than extreme tiredness and sleepiness. She cannot stay awake during the day. Nothing at all like my experience. Anyone else have this effect and if so, how long did it last? I

I doubt she'll tolerate this for long. Definitely not a shortage of calories. If anything, she's eating more than before starting.

Experienced the same. The worst of it lasted about two days, but I'd say it was a good month or two before things got "normal." In my mind it would be weird if she wasn't eating more under those conditions, but I suspect a week in (or whenever the scale starts to move), it will be largely reinforcing. Also as fatigue progresses from debilitating to mildly irritating it will likely be less of a barrier. Just like how when you turn the corner with a flu, even thought you're not fully recovered yet, you can sense you're on the upswing and feel good about that.

Agreed.

The sleepiness (damn near narcoleptic levels for me) is normal for many, and temporary. It was only super intense for a few weeks, lasting a couple hours, roughly 24-36hrs after each dose. That intensity dies down to a low energy afternoon slump for a couple hours, then generally normalizes.

Months later, if it returns for me ever, it’s usually a sign I need to put more fuel into my body (eat).

I had big time fatigue upon starting for a couple of weeks but I chocked it up to the fact that I went from eating 3000-5000 calories a day down to 1000. It impacted everything I did and resulted in many extremely half assed workouts. It got better over time and normalized over a couple months.

That is a very low dose. I suggest that you up the dosage to minimum 2mg for a week and then to 4mg the week thereafter.

It is important to eat enough protein and carbs when using reta.

Thanks for excellent feedback. She's already encouraged this is going to get better. We will see how she feels at the end of this first week before deciding whether to up the dose.

It's just a little surprising to me how different everybody's experience is. Tiny dose hit me hard and I had to make an effort to get enough calories but no major fatigue.

Tell her to keep at it, I reacted within 48 hours, my dad on the same vial didn't notice anything for 2-3 weeks, but once she starts to feel it and the weight starts dropping the motivation will kick in! Stay strong you and her have a lot of support here!

I went through the same thing when I started reta back in January. I'm an insomniac normally but for the first couple of months, all I did was sleep. I would nod off at the drop of a hat, especially in the afternoon. It eventually went away and now I only get exhaustion when I titrate up and it doesn't last long. My energy levels are still not where I would like them to be and I am still researching what to take to counteract that.

I had pretty bad fatigue that sort of dissipated after a few weeks, but my flat mood took a few weeks to get bad and then never went away until a couple of weeks after I discontinued.

I don’t agree with upping the dose while dealing with side effects. 1mg twice a week was my sweet spot. When I skipped a dose so that I could try 1.5mg for once a week I got violently ill the next day when it kicked in.

Also worth mentioning that even though I had good appetite suppression and the scale was slowly moving in the right direction I couldn’t see any changes and my pants fit exactly the same for like six weeks. For me it was more like I woke up one morning and looked in the mirror and it was like a bunch of weight had melted off over night.

Low and slow.

I second this exact statement. Always a couple days after. Finally went away after my first few weeks. Now (6 weaks in) I'm usually under-fueled if I feel overly fatigued and will slam a fairlife.

I'm six weeks in on my Reta journey, operating at an average of 800 kcal deficit each day. I am super tired all the time. I am getting great sleep, mostly because I quit drinking alcohol, but I am constantly falling asleep on the couch an hour before I usually go to bed.

I do have a few confounding variables, I am in the difficult season at work where I have to put more effort in mentally and sometimes physically, and my workouts are more frequent and more intense than pre-Reta.

6 5" 240 was start. 227lbs today. Been on .5mg for a month. Went from 2500+ (never tracked maybe more) to 2,000 or less - high protein low carb. Weighing foods, tracking foods. Gym, cardio. More energy for sure. Worse sleep. Everyone different.
All I want reta to do is give me more control of eating , I do not want nausea , just want, to some degree, indifference. Had a fantastic meal last night but, could have passed.

I only wish I could achieve more intense workouts. My steady gains since last injury have turned into frequent long breaks and sometimes dropping weight. Hoping this improves as my system adapts.

My two main forms of exercise are rock climbing and yoga. Both of these are easier to do with less body fat. As I've lost weight I can try harder at these things.
