Hey over 50 ladies! Get in here, Let's talk

I am a member of this! In my mid 50's, and told my Dr in December, I had to have something to help me lose weight, it just wouldn't budge. She prescribed and I started weg in January 2026 (only purcahsed 4 doses, couldn't afford anything more). I immediately started researching alternatives and ordered tirz and moved over to it in late Feb. Interesting enough, I felt that the weg was working better for me, I felt zero food noise on that starter dose of weg. I used tirz 2.5mg and that didn't really touch the food noise. After 3 weeks, I moved up to 3.5mg, that little extra mg was the small boost I needed!
I have multiple aches and pains from injuries I have acquired from horse related accidents. The stiffness and soreness was so bad that every step I took was in pain. I started KLOW March 1 and oh my, has it been a game changer for my injuries! I do have histamine reactions to it, but they are worth it for the relief it has given me. Looking into ways to minimize the histamine reactions currently.
I have learned so much from this forum, it has been a game changer! I enjoy everyone here and am glad to be a part of it!

Not saying you should do the same but I'm still taking Sema and a little tirz topper for the inflammation and food noise. Sema is cheap so I'll keep going on it till it's not doing the job. I'm on 1mg Sema and 1mg tirz per week. Sometimes I'll do a little extra of the tirz if I feel like I need it. Last week for some reason I was hungrier than usual so I did .5 of tirz before bed and it was gone the next day.

I see people moving up in dose quickly but I'm just moving up when I feel like I need to. Not trying to win a race. Slow and steady is fine for me.

I wonder about the KLOW but not ready to take the plunge on that just yet. I don't need anymore histamine reactions. My seasonal allergies already have me with a headache. Hello spring!

Target cortisol. and hormones. Lack of estrogen packs fat into the belly, as does cortisol. There are different approaches to mitigating this. research and try to see what works.
I quit drinking alcohol, started drinking Hiyo with ashwaganda and adaptogenic mushrooms in the evening instead. Also started HRT, , along with working out and getting more sleep.
together with Tirz and Reta. My belly is almost gone now.
Starting to work on hormones, since I am still not "officially" in menopause, I have to wait a bit longer. Just taking progesterone for now.
Lack of sleep is definitely a problem.
I drink alcohol once in a blue moon on holidays/birthdays, and that's a glass or a couple of shots at most.
Wonder what Hiyo is?

Hiyo is a drink that is sparkling water and fruit extracts and adaptogenics added like mushroom extracts and Ashwaganda, which is known for it's calming effects and for thwarting cortisol. I use it as a sub for evening wine I used to drink too much of.
I forgot to add sugar spikes trigger cortisol. so avoiding sugars and refined straches also helps.
I successfully avoided menopause for a couple of years taking herbal supplements they sell over the counter. The names slip my mind at the moment.

I was actually thinking of going back to Sema, simply because it is so cheap and it was working. I only moved to tirz because sooo many peers were recommending it. I am in no rush to move up with dosages either. That is a great idea how you are doing this, gives me something to think about, thank you!

For me it really is the cheaper option. I'm retired so the money matters. I bought a kit of Sema and a Kit of Tirz and I'm good for a year. It's tempting to follow the trends but I really can't afford it. If the Sema stops working I'll have to reassess but right now I'm on 1.0 sema and 1 or 2 mg of tirz (depending on how I feel) per week.

I don't know if it's the weight loss or the reta but I have been feeling cold for the first time in so long and I am LOVING it. No more hot flashes, I'm putting on a sweater at 75*. It is such a bonus perk of this! Anyone have this on tirz? I did not have it on sema alone, and I skipped tirz and added the reta, but I may use tirz at some point for inflammation and I'd love to have the cold feeling continue if I do.

Hi, I'm 50 and will start reta friday or saturday depending on the mail! Anything I should do to prepare or have on hand? I have all the supplies to reconstitute, filter, and pin. I'm just thinking food wise or something. I'm planning to start very slow because I want to avoid side effects. 0.25 every 3 and 4 days, then reassess dose after 4 weeks.

I've been battling weight for the last 27 years, losing and gaining over and over. I've done a million different diets. I hate exercise and it never makes me feel better. I just want to take a nap. I've been tired for as long as I can remember. I lost 2 family members in the last couple years who were around 200 lbs and we had a hard time finding assisted living care for them because of their weight. That kicked me in the pants in November 2024 and I started working with a doctor on my health. I've probably had hypothyroidism most of my life so that's been slowly getting dialed in and I feel much better than when I started. My HS-CRP and A1C have come down, but still too high. I lost 35 lbs last year and was on berberine but had to stop because it gave me major GI issues (hence why I want to go very slow with reta). Since then I've gained back 10 lbs. I have very faithfully been exercising with walking and bodyweight exercises since last year, but then switched to strength training in january hoping it would help me lose by gaining more muscle. I haven't lost a thing. I never thought a GLP-1 would work for me because I don't feel like I struggle with food noise. I have diet noise, if anything, constantly thinking about counting carbs, eating more lean protein, swapping rice for cauliflower, lettuce for bread, fennel for pasta, etc. Then I read about reta and wondered if it would help whatever seems to be broken in my body. 🙏

Find a source of protein that you like and keep it on hand. I try to keep canned tuna, canned chicken, and frozen chicken thighs or pork chops. I also use unflavored protein and carnation instant breakfast max protein to make protein shakes and drink Darigold fit milk (has 14 gms protein per cup); sometimes I add it to my coffee (remember to mix it in cool liquid then add the hot coffee while blending or it will curdle and be gross). When I have no appetite I use protein drinks to make my protein goals- getting adequate protein helps prevent muscle loss and hair loss (my hair grew like crazy while I lost most of the weight I’ve lost because I made sure to get my protein).

Stock up on chia seeds to prevent constipation and learn to enjoy tadpole water.

Make sure you drink plenty of water so you don’t get dehydrated. It’s easy for it to sneak up on you.

Even if you hate exercise, take a walk- if you have a dog, start walking the dog once a day. I have a vibration plate because I’m osteopenic (improved from osteoporosis) and I use that- it doesn’t feel like exercise, but it’s good for your circulation and you can do some simple exercises while using it- I do heel lifts and stand w/bent knees to strengthen my core. Plus even just standing on it for 15 minutes does burn some calories.

Congrats on taking action to improve your health! And welcome!

I stack Reta and Tirz- I had unbearable side effects on Tirz (concrete constipation, exhaustion-literally sleeping unless I was working or caring for my pets- and all my food tasted strange/off) so I transitioned to Reta.. but don’t lose well on just Reta.. so I take a small dose of Reta and Tirz to avoid the sides while still losing. I am either cold or hot; my feet are always cold unless I wear slippers (yes, even in bed- slipper socks). Making life even more fun, I have the Reta side effect of night sweats.. so I’m cold and damp. Or hot and damp. I’m seriously thinking of getting a sleep number bed so I can see if sleeping on a cool surface for my back will decrease the night sweats, but be able to set the foot zone to warmer than the rest. But yes, I’m frequently cold in 75 degree environments.

I think the night sweats are just a peri symptom? I purchased a few different "cooling" blankets, but none really help that much. Still need to turn on the aircon, which I hate at night.
I'm curious at which dose the "cooling" effect actually starts? I'm currently at 3mg, and don't think I feel any cooler than previously.

Except I didn’t have night sweats until I started Reta, and I’m 63, so I’m way past menopause. I was lucky, had hot flashes for maybe 6-8 weeks and no night sweats during menopause. I wish I could look forward to it ending. 😒. I hate it.

And I have 3-4 cooling blankets. They work.. sort of. But not when I lay on them..

Aaah, I see. For me, I'm still peri, and I am on progesterone and just started estradiol. I think my hot flushes are gone, but I wake up at night being hot - which is, I guess, "night sweats". I wasn't even aware that those were two different things. 🤷‍♀️ 🤦‍♀️
And yes, I can't wait until it's all done and over with. I told my naturopath when discussing whether to dose the estradiol so I bleed monthly, or no bleed at all - I'd rather have a hysterectomy than going back to monthly periods.

I have a chilipad from many years ago. (It circulates heated or cooled water through tubes in a mattress pad). At some point that company went out of biz and was rebranded, in the interim I had an issue with the mattress cover connectors so I stopped using it. I will say it worked pretty well, was less dramatic than waterbed chillers of the 80s but definitely helped cool or heat. The chilipads didn't have zones, though. The cost of it was cheaper than running ac at 68*.

Once my hormones leveled out post peri, I was doing better on the hot flashes until I upped a medication that gave me night sweats. Reta seems to have stopped that, too, for me <3

You can grind them up in a coffee grinder, you will get the best benefit as the omega 3s will be accesible. throw a tablespoon into any liquid or yogurt etc

*** Be aware that reta can inhibit the T-4 to T3 conversion, thus worsening the hypothyroid symptoms. This happened to me. If you can wake up very early to take the Levo a couple of hours before consuming other things, it will work better.

I wish I had bought thick fuzzy soft shoes, my feet are always freezing cold from the reta.

be proactive with hormones, I used to take herbal supplements before meno. that worked;
They were called Estroven and Amberen. They stopped the night sweats etc..

I don't really understand the fiber thing. I eat mostly ketovore and have no issues. Any time I have fibrous things, I get gas.

I currently take my thyroid meds at night. I'm on both T3 and T4 because I don't really convert. I have a follow up appointment on Monday and I plan to tell him about reta. He had mentioned trying a GLP last fall but I refused at the time because I only knew about sema and didn't think it would address my issues.

He doesn't do HRT until there have been 3 labs done in a row confirming because he prefers pellets (I get labs every 6-12 weeks). So far I haven't minded because going on thyroid meds has drastically improved my symptoms. I don't think I've reached the upper limit of the meds yet and expect another dosage increase on monday though (unless he prefers to wait to see how I respond to reta since I'll only have one dose in my system by then). Once I reach the end of the road with thyroid meds, I'll ask about patches or something else, if I'm still feeling poorly since they can be adjusted if I have a period.

I’m envious! I had IBS-D for my entire life until Tirz- I NEVER thought I would have to deal with constipation, but GLPs have done it- and nothing helped until I tried chia seeds in water. I never worried about fiber either- and I couldn’t tell you if fiber gave me gas in the past because EVERYTHING did. Now? Much less of an issue. Be glad you don’t have issues!

You should insist on waiting 4 weeks on Reta before any dosage changes (reta or other meds), as it really takes that long for reta to really show what it does to your system.

Oook you really got my attention with that comment about the Levo...I usually take that at like 4am, when I have my first of 100 alarms to get up and work out. I have been poking around trying to figure out what time of day is better to pin the reta...Tirz I haven't really noticed a difference, though I prefer to do it at night so I am at least home vs at work. If I do it in the evening, that will be a significant enough gap between the Levo and the Reta--but would like 4-5 hours be enough of a gap?

I am just a month shy of 48, so I probably don't belong in this thread quite yet, but it's been super interesting for me since I really haven't delved much into the HRT options--my obgyn got me on the cream but I admittedly am not consistent with it, and...I guess it hasn't really registered that I am this age and I am in peri now. Like when did I hit this age?!!

Oh yeah, I've been taking that for a while. I can't really say if it is doing anything to prevent or reduce sagging skin but I can say it has eliminated back pain and significantly reduced the pain in my knees. That alone makes it worth taking.
I have read that GLOW and KLOW tend to make botox and some fillers metabolize quicker. On the off chance you or anyone else in here has tried either, did you notice that occurring with KLOW or GLOW?

I don't actually know if timing is a factor for pinning, as It is for food or beverage intake. 4am is perfect. I think that somehow it's the Reta throughout the body that inhibits the conversion at those sites. But I don't know.. I had to add T3 to my dailies.
Making sure we get enough minerals like zinc, iodine, selenium, magnesium etc is also important. It could be something like that; the lack of something critical for the conversion we aren't getting enough of because we aren't eating enough.

Funny enough, I cannot take additional iodine that isn't in my multivitamin due to an allergic reaction (it's such a weird allergy, too, like how are you allergic to something that you need to survive.) I do take a bariatric multi, and boatloads of additional magnesium (multiple forms, plus shitrate for obvious reasons lol), as well as zinc daily. I have had a hell of a time getting an endo that will actually pay attention to more than just the TSH, though. The bariatric surgeon will do the full panel, but I have churned through endos in the last 20 years just trying to get one that will do a full panel! They act like I have no idea wtf I am talking about, as if those numbers are entirely useless--I have had 48 years of experience with how I feel when my numbers are off, and my mom has been on synthetic since she was in her late teens, which is why they knew to pay attention to mine. She still updates my friggin baby book! (I can't decide if that is sweet or creepy!) When she hit the throes of menopause, she had to change from levo to armour--which is a nightmare to get apparently--and I am wondering if that will be something I encounter as well. Before my sleeve, I was at 175, post sleeve I've been at 200-225, but I feel great at 200. When we go to Mexico, I try to get boxes of 100 (that's as high as they go) so I can keep a little extra since Walgreens seems to have a hard time keeping stock. Some months I get capsules, some months the little chewable tablets. It's weird.

wow I am sorry, I dont have an endo, I did for a moment then switched providers. I got my pcp to run all the tests. Armor makes both kinds, levo and the porcine. They dont have a great reputation as a compounding entity. Consistency seems to be a problem. Mine come from Mylan. I am sorry you've gone through all that, I hope things get better.

Hi! I thought I would jump in here. I'm 57 and have been on tirz for 9 months now. This morning I was down 80.1 pounds with 7.5 to get to my initial goal. I am undecided if I want that to be my final goal or not. I'm really thinking I want to get to mid 130's which is a little over 20lbs away but I'm so happy even now that I am not going to stress over it.
I'm 8 years post menopause and have started in with hot flashes and night sweats again. I'm trying to get in with my doctor to see if HRT would help. I had zero help with perimenopause because my doctor at the time told me I was too young and refused to even listen. Just told me to lose weight. I also have absolutely awful sleep. I can't fall asleep, I can't stay asleep, my sleep quality is poor. I thought maybe losing weight, daily exercise, and eating right would help. Nope.

I'm still peri and a second month on progesterone and estrogen...still have the night sweats...hope they'll eventually go away... 🙄
If you haven't already, you need to find a new doctor.
I'm working with a naturopath and finally feel like someone is actually listening and looking at things from variety of angles...

For sleep: did you try magnesium?

Yep. I currently take Magnesium Glycinate, Ashwaganda, Melatonin, Glycine, and L Theanine. It helps me fall asleep by 2am instead of 4am. NAD+ has not helped. I took tesamorelin for 5 days and it was causing too many other issues to see if it would eventually help.

We moved so I have a new doctor now. And I am changing again to a nurse practitioner who seems like she is really on the same wavelength. Waiting for all of my records to transfer before they will set up an appointment.

I'm almost 50. What has worked for peri symptoms? I'm desperate right now. I already went to my gyno last year and they just gave me birth control pills which I didn't like. They said they could not advise hrt because I was still having a period.

But anyway,I'm looking at various otc estrogen creams and wondering if any of those make sense or should I get real estrogen from indiamart.
