paypal just took me for $400

I read through most of SRY - Lisa’s posts about payment methods and none (at least recent posts) offered PayPal. I have also bought from them three times and PayPal wasn’t an acceptable payment route. How did you end up using that method?
Crypto

Not sure BBB is going to help with a financial institution (PayPal) following rules/regs regarding red flags for money laundering.

That’s the danger with using PayPal, they’re keeping an eye on transactions that raise red flags. One of many reasons why many vendors only use crypto.
It was crypto

I think if you're not willing to read through the multiple crypto guides floating out there, which make it super clear that you should absolutely use your own wallet, then you have no business paying in crypto. I'm not willing to read or figure it out lol, so I don't use crypto. It sucks that you're out money, but there was a high likelihood of this happening by using paypal.
Now I know.

A reminder for everyone. You don’t own the wallets being used at apps like PayPal or CashApp so they can shut you down at any time. The quickest way for that to happen is to send money to a wallet they have flagged (I.e- a vendor wallet). The safest way to use these apps is to set up a self custody wallet on Exodus (It’s pretty straightforward).

Always send your crypto to that wallet before sending it to a vendor.

Keep your money safe folks!
Thank you for explaining the reasoning! I’ve used crypto on CashApp for Canadian research analogue LSD, South African Iboga, Indian pharmacy tretinoin, etc. I’m surprised they didn’t get suspicious yet 😅

Here’s some advice.. don’t use anything related to PayPal.. I’ve been using crypto since BTC was used on silkroad..
Does the Silk Road even exist anymore? I have no idea where to access safe MDMA for therapy. I even have a psychedelic-assisted therapist locally, but this seems to be the only “tool” elusive to access.

Others have stated this but just making sure its super clear for everyone.

Whatever you use to buy crypto (Paypal, CashApp, Coinbase)... You MUST send that crypto to a seperate wallet (exodus is a popular one) that you control before sending it to a vendor. Otherwise your account WILL eventually get flagged and locked.

It concerns me the amount of people who are unaware the bbb is a private company with absolutely no power over anything
It's just an option. Just a small stone to throw. Bad reviews don't really do too terribly much either but... 👀
I fucked up. Period. I don't think there's really anything else I could do to fuck it up more, so....👀

I think if you did some research on what your seeking in India, you'd probably have good luck.

Expensive lesson unfortunately. PayPal has been doing this as far as I can remember, even if you aren't buying/selling stuff thats gray/black. Lots of stuff can trip whatever bullshit set of processes they use to look for violations. They dont care and there isnt really an accessible legal pathway for regular folk to seek any sort of resolution.

You can try to appeal to their "customer service" but depending on how much your time is worth it might be cheaper to mentally write the money off cause you have potentially weeks and more likely months of arguing with them and you still likely will never see that money again.

I send crypto from my CashApp wallet. Is that also as risky as pay pal?
Yes. I can't use crypto because it's way too complicated for me here in NY. But I have read so much about all of it - trying to find workarounds that actually work - and everything I have read says: SEND YOUR CRYPTO TO YOUR OWN WALLET! Never send crypto directly to a CN vendor from your paypal wallet or CashApp wallet or a crypto exchange. Always put it in your own secure noncustodial wallet, like Exodus, first.

So here I thought paying a vendor with paypal would be the safer option (standard USD $ payment - non crypto) because in the event the vendor decides to scam you then you can open a dispute and get a refund?
