Great answer. Sadly in my divorce, I lost my three dogs. My wife was terrible as a wife. However, as much as I dislike her, I had to acknowledge that the dogs liked her better than they liked me. she was a good doggie momma. I let her have the dogs. I did that for the dogs' benefit, not for my ex-wife's benefit.

Everyone believes price gouging is unethical. But you defined price gouging as >20% markup which is absurd. Most things have more markup than that. The amount of tirz in a whole kit costs pennies to make. Price gouging is taking advantage of an emergency situation.

California requires an emergency situation before price gouging laws go into effect. California Penal Code § 396. Not everyone believes price gouging is unethical. See Cohchrane, In Praise of Price Gouging (2024). I grant that price gouging is generally illegal in the US. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the US government frequently had to invoke the Defense Production Act to increase supplies in sufficient time to help people. Often this wouldn't have been necessary if manufacturers were permitted to "price gouge" in order to greatly increase supply without government interventihon.
