Reta vs Tirz

I had a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch last night, first time in a long while I'd had milk or cereal. Something like 700 calories, it was good. Unlike the last time I bought a box, I'm not pining to eat another bowl this morning, formerly being able to go through a box in a day so I'd rarely buy it.

Reading these last few posts makes me feel sad for my late father. His whole life was spent wondering where the next meal was coming from. We'd be having breakfast and he would ask my mom what we were having for lunch. I don't think he ever had a day free from food noise.

He never really talked about it much, but he grew up in the rural south on a farm and I think food was kind of scarce some times, which I am sure contributed to the situation for him.

I kind of wish he would have had the opportunity to give GLP1s a go, I think he would have had a better end of life. He was Type 2 diabetic with high cholesterol, wound up needing a quadruple bypass, ended up with renal failure and on dialysis. I think he would have been able to avoid a lot of that with the help of GLP1s.

When people say Reta stops food noise, does that noise mean things like intrusive thoughts of binging and purging? I have a big problem with that. I understand it’s an eating disorder but would Reta stop it?
For me, reta makes me not think about food at all. Before reta when I would diet, I would think about what I was going to fix before it was time to eat and watch keto channels on YouTube and stuff like that. Now, I don't think about food at all until I actually get hungry. I haven't looked at a recipe in months. I was out the other day and it was time for dinner, so I was thinking about what to get. Normally I would have a bunch of places in mind but I honestly didn't want anything. Nothing sounded good. I just knew I had to eat otherwise I would feel like crap later. I hope that makes sense.

I ate rice last night. Even something as simple as that has always set off this cascade of food obsession in the past. Ended up taking 2mg Reta this week (week 1) and it’s so interesting to have the volume turned way down, like many of you are saying. It’s very liberating.

I think both Tirz and Reta are miracle drugs, but I'm a big fan of Tirz. Lost 60 pounds in 5 months. Reta just didn't work the same way for me when I tried to switch to it. I will say that if you decide to take Reta, don't take Tirz first. You'll get spoiled on Tirz's appetite suppression and you might regain some weight when you first make the switch from Tirz to Reta.
Exactly my experience too. Tirz beats Reta on appetite suppression. If you have never used Tirz before then you might not notice the difference, but I really noticed how much Reta was lacking when it comes to appetite control. I also noticed that there is better anti-inflammatory results with Tirz than there is Reta.

As someone who has big issues with food noise and binge eating, I mean constantly thinking about food and eating when I’m not even hungry, Tirz is by far the best option. I tried Reta and I just can’t understand the hype. I can see it working for those who may not have such a severe issue with food noise, but it had much less of an appetite suppression effect and I actually put on weight and got a cravings for sweet food. I never really had a sweet tooth ever before and always had more of a craving for carbs and savoury foods, so a sudden craving for sweet treats was not a welcome side effect. I ended up gaining weight on Reta, even when I titrated up to a high dose. It really had negative effects for me so I went back to Tirz. I do stack Reta with Tirz only because I have a stockpile of Reta and I’m too stingy to waste it, but Tirz does most of the heavy lifting and I’m on quite a high dose of Tirz. For me anyway, Tirz is by far the most effective and if it is working, why swap over to Reta?

Good luck on your weight loss journey 🙂

I've been on Tirz since I first started to lose weight - (from 322pound to current plateaued 226pounds) I've tried Reta - but whether I spend months and months taking it slowly, or starting with an outrageous amount (like up to 20mg) - Reta does absolutely NOTHING for me. I have no idea why this is so. So I'm stuck with Tirz and wondering what its like to lose weight on Reta...
Same! Not a fan of Reta at all. I gained weight when I was on it and the constant food noise and suddenly developing a sweet tooth whilst on Reta made me wonder how this is working so well for other people. Tirz is definitely the best option for me, Reta just doesn’t match the appetite suppression power of Tirz. I also found the Reta doesn’t have as good of an anti-inflammatory effect that Tirz has

Do you feel people who stall on Tirz, reta could help break the stall so they can go back on tirz only?

Many thanks to this community for the education and empowerment. I know there are a lot of discussions about Reta vs tirz and I have read and learned a ton from them. The search function is so helpful. I did finally pin 1mg Reta yesterday for the first time and kind of waiting to see if the low dose has any noticeable effect. Despite all this, I’m still deliberating what to use long term. For context, I am already at my goal weight through very restrictive food choices and have kept this up for several years after a significant weight loss. It's not really a "normal" lifestyle and I want to be able to eat a few carbs without turning on the addictive food behaviors I am prone to. I like to lift weights and I have some issues with anxiety. I would prefer to optimize the dose of a single agent before considering combination therapy. I know I just have to decide, but can I please get a logic check on the following?

Reta pros:
-higher food intake
-more energy for exercise

Tirz pros:
-more food noise suppression
-less sleep disruption
-finished with phase 3 trials and excellent safety record
-more robust/easier storage of reconstituted peptide
-?more benefit for anxiety

Being a bit of an anxious type, I am already feeling an urge to stockpile and want to make sure I pick the agent I am most likely to use. I am leaning toward tirz but just worried about low energy and bad or no workouts in that setting. Thanks again to anyone who has insights based on their experience.
I like Tirz and my coworker like Reta. I think I have another coworker taking Reta as well. I haven’t switched but have thought about it. They really like it and don’t want to run out. 😀

Hopefully reta works better for you as far as energy. I have struggled with extreme exhaustion most of the time I have been on it. I would definitely get more exercise if it weren't for that. There is no way I could ever take tirz if it is worse for fatigue.
I hit a lull 3/4 weeks in at 4mg on reta, when I felt that coming on I make sure to eat something to bring blood sugar up for a bit. I think that's why most people experience that lethargy. I've actually noticed all of my sides are become less severe as well. I am 3 months in. Currently at 6mg reta and 1mg tirz
