I know I’m a newbie…I can figure out when trying to reply to posts they get flagged. Examples:
Asking what johns and joes are.
Asking someone to explain data mining.

It is easy to miss the following guides when starting out -- much is explained here -

I read all that, I don’t believe I violated any of rules

There is a bit of a catch-22 where you’re not allowed to discuss certain things, but those things aren’t explicitly laid out, so you both cannot easily discover them, nor can you directly ask about them.

In addition there are some auto replacements that happen to posts (the scammers at…, some lady and her ai ghost writer, data mining…) that are a weird middle ground. You can sort of talk about those things, but it’s difficult to know exactly what everyone is discussing until you sniff it out via contextual clues or finding someone who does some sort of s1lly t3xt repl@cing to get around the auto replacements. Which is often a person abiding by the spirit of the rules, and ignoring the letter of them.

You (and I!) are also new enough that we can’t talk about even more things vs more established members. That one is a little easier to figure out, and may be one of the things getting you flagged.

I’ve not actually managed to figure out either of the things you’re asking about in the original post, but I can at least sympathize a bit, and maybe the above helps you feel more like it’s system being a bit confusing and less a problem with you specifically.

Great response thank you. So you wrote data mining so it couldn’t have been that.

Have you seen that red banner under your username that says "No Source Discussion?"

Did the link begging occur elsewhere, or are the two questions listed in this thread’s initial post considered begging?

I feel like I’ve read a fair bit in the short time I’ve been here, and have no clue what either of those things are. Requesting clarification on what a thing is seems a fair step from asking for access or guidance to those things.

I asked for the definition of John and Joes and data mining, no link begging that I can see
I really didn't pay attention to your post. I get a shitload of messages begging for me to throw members a bone wanting GB links. They want handouts without working for it. I'm sure because I've mentioned all the stuff I buy from GB

So let's be honest, the filters kind of suck. Sometimes you can be trying to post about something totally allowed and the spam filter will hit you. Then you try and figure out what the offending word is and you get the prohibited content message. The you don't change anything and hit enter again and you get the spam filter. Then you submit the exact same thing again and it goes through. It does tend to filter out the weak, but it is a PIA. When I was new, if I thought there was nothing in the message that would violate anything I would submit it 2 or 3 times and often it would go through. You are not imagining things. Just tough it out and you will make it to the next level.

See my post #13. Instead of doing it in DM, they ask on the open forum.

Here is the thing, since you don't know what your original post was asking about...you don't really know what you are asking about. Since we are not allowed to discuss them with you, you need to wait until you have your No Source Discussion removed. That should tell you what they mean.

Ill let you in on it .. John and Joe's are what US Citizens call Bob and Doug from that Second City Great North Sketch. Its like how a Royale with cheese is a Whopper at Hungry Jacks in Australia. Hahaha.

Just kidding I have no idea. I ran a search on the forum see where it was brought up several times no context. Cant help and it's hilarious to see everyone ignore the question. Sorry you are getting the run around.

I’m not the OP. And I’m not now, and never have, inquired as to what those two things are.

I get that this is delicate ground, and I’m not trying to rules lawyer anything here. My question to Zippity was mostly to make sure I wasn’t stepping in to defend someone who had misbehaved out of my sight and was now falsely claiming innocence.

What I see in this thread is someone who appears to be trying to understand the system and work within it in good faith. And they’re being punished (at the least, chastised) for not knowing what they don’t know. That’s a challenging environment to operate in.

Moderation is difficult at this scale. I get that. Many folks here show an abundance of patience for the same questions repeated seemingly without end, and I’m really grateful for the information that’s shared, and the genuine desire shown to help new people onboard not just into this community, but into everything it represents. I’m really appreciative.

Adherence to rules that aren’t made clear seems an unreasonable expectation, and it looks like maybe an opportunity to clarify things for new members. Having to reverse engineer a rule set by hitting your head against a “you can’t post that” message is awkward, and doesn’t seem in line with everything else this group does to educate, inform, and keep people safe and growing.

That’s all I’m trying to get at here.

What you don't understand as that we can get a good knuckle rap too.

Sorry, I totally don’t follow. And I would rather not guess and risk putting words in your mouth. Could you elaborate?

I can see everything that the content moderation bot screens, and you tried asking for a Discord link multiple times.

I have no idea who John and Joe are, but the data mining site spam mitigation and replacement text is for sites that have a history/reputation of harvesting data from members and visitors to those sites so referencing or linking to them here is prohibited.

When someone tries posting certain content that the moderation bot screens, they will get the "Oops" popup telling them there's a problem with the content of their post, and doesn't allow them to actually post it which is why you won't see the offending content. I can still see all it in the logs though.

The spam mitigation and content moderation bots aren't perfect, but they do a large amount of the heavy lifting that would otherwise require a staff of 20+ moderators and keep the vast majority of garbage and spam posts from clogging up the feed for regular members and visitors; plus helping enforce the No Source Discussion restrictions on new members.

Honestly, I wish none of it was necessary, but every day there are numerous situations which make it clear that it's all a necessary evil.

Yeah, the best way to get along on a new site is to just go with the flow...If you find yourself bumped up against a stop sign, its best to just stop and not keep pushing ahead...There is enough content and information here to pivot to, so no need for newbie heartache posts...YMMV

The filters and your hand work are the reason this is not Reddit and it is appreciated. You have built a strong community here so you must be doing something right. Thank you.

Tysm for posting your buys. It really sparked my interest and led me to find them. It's not rocket science.
  • Join vendors' discords/tg
    • Join their other chat server sites (not discord/tg, but listed on their invite/announcement channels)
      • That site literally has gbs on the homepage (Ctrl + F 'group or gb'
        • From there ask around and/or find tg gb invites then join others links from those tgs. Or ask people there for others.
Took me a day to figure it out.
