New 10% tariffs on goods from China

I think a tariff is the least of our concerns. We haven't paid sufficient duties on the items we are importing. I don't know about your supplier, but mine lists the item as kitty litter on the invoice.
I thought it was generally understood not to mention what the details are about how shipments arrive because there's eyes everywhere...

Reading the current presidential order states that de minimis no longer applies to anything coming from China and is in effect 2/4/25 at 12:01am. All in route packages are exempt.

Any clue how on earth this will work? Customs can't process all the de minimis packages the same as regular duty.

Thoughts?

I'm guessing that all packages will need a customs slip declaring contents and value, and the tax will have to be paid on the value. There will be no more exemption on inspections, but they can't inspect a billion packages. There will be random checks, and I don't know what happens to companies that make false declarations. Do they just start another puppet company to ship from, or do they do the trans-ship tactic and send it to another country that still have the de minimis exemption.

Of course, China could cut a deal. I'm not trying to be political, but Trump does love to make deals.

I don't think anyone, including the US and China, knows what will happen. It will be interesting to see how all of this plays out.

Exporters will start selling to us at cost and charging the difference in freight fees not subject to or paid in a separate transaction to avoid the tariff.

Shein has been funding my weight loss wardrobe lately. This is devastating. 🥲 My local thrift stores aren't worth the price, it's all shein clothes but somehow marked up even higher.
YES!!! And TEMU!! ... and if I need something quicker, it's TikTok Shop (which seems to be all Shein and Temu stuff already in the US and ready to ship so it's a little more expensive at the jump but delivers quick)

My AliExpress might go away too 😔
OMG!! I literally just downloaded that app like an hour ago! I thought I had already looked at crap on their site, but then I realized that I have been thinking that my Alibaba was AliExpress! Now I wish I would have realized my error LONG ago!!

I am terrible about losing things, so I use ali to get bulk emr stylus's for my tablet and e-reader. You're telling me I have to NOT LOSE something? It's also where I get all my fancy Japanese paper and binders and notebooks. 🥲 How can people tell I'm a snowflake if I'm using boring old American stationary?! And all my cheap, HEMA filled nail products that will give me acrylate allergies eventually 😭

HOW ARE WE NOT FRIENDS ALREADY?!?!!? This is so me!!! Between peps and cheap "backups" from China, these tariffs actually had me digging around indiamart and echemi to see if I could find a quick substitute. Especially the cheap nail supply stuff. The look of distain on my face now as I walk down the nail aisle of Sally Beauty! 🤣 I have to admit, the made-in-china app is a literal rabbit hole ... and I will never look at anything the same way. That site is full of the most random sh*t and even the full on manufacturing machines to make said random sh*t. I even reached out to someone and bought the most perfect LV knockoff purse I've ever seen! $17 ... and then there's Live streams all over TikTok selling the exact same ones for $119-$140/ea. I'm like ... I know where you got that! Hahaha!!
The indiamart one is a little harder to and more frustrating to use. As for pep sourcing, it's a crap shoot and the few vendors I have contacted dont have competitive pricing at all.

Muji, Daiso, Kinokuniya stores should have you covered on your Japanese stationery needs, at least.

Noooo you just gave me another website, just as I CAN'T USE IT.

Like yea they're full of chemicals... But hema free just doesn't do magnetic gels JUSTICE, you know? My goal WAS to lose enough weight to be able to fit in the cute Shein bras 😂

It's awfully consumerist of me, but I just lose everything. I switched to an android based e-reader just so I could use find my android on it- I used to buy used kindles for $20 on eBay every time I lost one. When I cleaned out my old car, I found FOUR. I keep backups of my backups. I have a watch attached to my planner that goes off three times a day to remind me to take my pills and check my planner to see if I'm forgetting anything important/ need to write something down 😂

well USPS just said they are suspending all inbound parcels from China.

Oh ffs who is sitting around making these insanely disruptive decisions that don’t seem to have any purpose or objective

So many people buy from Shein, Temu, AliExpress, and even Amazon allows for direct from China shipping. Not just consumers but businesses too. I can't see where this USPS rule is going to be implemented for very long.

needless to say a lot of our peptides came through USPS. I've only ordered a couple of times where it came through FedEx.

Been a lurker for a while. I recently joined the forum and ugh...This is so frustrating. I finally found what works for me and this happens. Though, based on verbiage, I think it only affects parcels sent through China Post and not Fedex or DHL. I don't think I've ever received something from China Post.

I think the package starts as "China Post" then after it goes through Customs, it gets transferred to another carrier. Anytime something has shipped via DHL, I always have the best luck as the tracking #'s really don't change. They just add a prefix of numbers in front once it gets scanned in at the first US DHL plant.

They can't comply with the de minimis exception being removed. Don't have the infrastructure or people power to do it. This is their only option if they want to comply with the latest EO.

CBP does the actual inspection, etc., but USPS is responsible for all duty payments on the goods. They don't have any way to deal with the sheer volume of duty and tax payments they would need to handle for everything flowing through them from China.

How is this post benefit peptide/GLP1 users regarding harm reduction, vendor info., or personal experiences? It does not. It's political and you should ban yourself.
This mess is directly tied to the sourcing of peptides.
