Do You Filter Your Peptides Before Use?

After being advised on here to filter, I ordered some of these: https://peptidetest.com/products/tisch-scientific-filter-syringe-22μm-pes-4mm-sterile-individually-wrapped-exp-10-31-27

Seems a lot of folks don't have any trouble without filtering, but I figure I might as well. One filter per vial is not too expensive relative to other costs. After seeing posts about people finding visible stuff in their vials, I was pretty set on going the filter route. Maybe my room air isn't suitable for a biolab, but I rarely see shit floating in it.

As far as ampule filtering goes, I have these for ampules: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D95XVN6 and I would definitely recommend filtering any ampule draws to avoid injecting yourself with glass.
You don’t need different filters for ampules. The filter needles are an unnecessary expense. Use one kind of filter for everything.

I don't know if this is accurate. The glass from the ampule could damage the finer membrane on a syringe filter. But I'm just theorizing.
I used them in the hospital when drawing up ampules (I’m old, they don’t generally use them anymore), so I’m going from experience. It was 30 years ago, but experience. Ativan, morphine and mag sulfate used to come in ampules.

You drew from an ampule with a syringe filter on? They are meant to be used only in the other direction. I'm not negating your experience, but maybe it was a different filter design 30 years ago?

No, I drew from the ampule with a 4mm filter between a needle and the syringe…

Ok, I see the confusion. Someone was saying they bought both kinds of filters. I said the syringe filters weren’t necessary. I wasn’t talking about syringe filters…

Thanks for the insights. I bought the filter needles when ampules were the only use case I had in mind. GLP filtration is new territory for me. I do think filter needles are cheaper, though, which is an advantage if ampules are your only use case.

Yes, and you made me research the filter needles- those are the ones for drawing from ampules; they only filter 5 microns vs 22, which catches glass but lets everything else through. Now I’m off to get filter needles, because I filter ampules too.

I get a box of 100 from Amazon for $51.

I found a box of 100 for $38.00.

They charge for shipping 😔

thanks folks (hat tip to AndyPanda) snagged box to deal with imported carnitine and glutathione in amps

What did you do that you think was wrong?
I think I should have used a smaller filter. I had a 13mm and I probably should have had a 4mm. I also tried to flush what was left in the filter but I don't think I did it correctly. I think it may be the reason my first pin of Tirz using that vial was less "potent" I guess than my previous vial that I didn't filter.

nothing wrong with 13mm vs 4mm. they both work fine.

Losing some in the filter wont change the concentration.

Every vial is slightly different anyways, and you can't judge anything based on how it felt.

Anyone pre-wet filter & rinse? …& where do we find sterile vialls? Thanks! 🙂

Step-by-Step Best Practice
  1. Dissolve peptide in appropriate buffer or solvent.
  2. Pre-wet your filter with 0.2–0.5 mL of the same solvent.
  3. Filter slowly — do not force it too hard, which can shear molecules or cause binding.
  4. Measure final volume to account for any loss.
  5. (Optional) Rinse filter with a small amount of solvent to recover residual peptide.
(Thx ChatG!) 😉

When I do filter, I don't bother trying to reclaim $0.03 worth of peptide.

I got mine from Peptide Test, but Underground Supply looks good too.
Consider taking that conversation Here https://glp1forum.com/threads/vial-source.4172/

True. They were different vials from different vendors as well, so there's also that. I would imagine things vary with each vendor as well.
